Job Description

Northland Plastics designs and builds every extrusion die, vacuum calibrator and fabrication fixture we run — in our own toolroom. We're a third-generation, family-owned custom profile extruder (founded 1953, ~40 people) supplying medical, automotive and industrial OEMs. Because the tooling is ours, the toolroom sets the pace for the whole plant, and we're adding an experienced toolmaker who can take a die from print to first shot. What you'll build Custom extrusion dies, sizing/vacuum calibration tooling and downstream fixtures — low-volume, high-precision, every job different Wire EDM work (programming and operating) is the core of this role — plan on it most days Hurco CNC mill setup, programming at the control and operation; manual mill, lathe and surface grinder as needed Tolerances to ±.001" and tighter; inspection with micrometers, indicators, gauges and comparator Troubleshoot tooling with our design engineers and process technicians and feed fixes back into the next die What we're looking for 3+ years in a toolroom, mold shop or die shop (tool & die, mold making or precision machining) Hands-on wire EDM experience — you can program, set up and run it without supervision CNC mill experience (Hurco conversational programming a plus; we'll train on the control) Strong print reading, shop math and metric/inch conversion Journeyman card or technical diploma preferred, not required if the experience is there Able to lift 50 lbs and stand for extended periods Pay and benefits $32-$38/hour, set by demonstrated skill — bring your experience and we'll talk Health, dental, vision and life insurance 401(k) with 25% company match on up to 6% of pay (eligible after 90 days) Paid time off starting at 10 days — more for experienced toolmakers, so tell us what you need Tuition reimbursement Stable 8-hour shifts, 40-hour weeks with occasional overtime Small, senior team — you'll work directly with the owners and the engineers, not through layers Why this toolroom Every profile we run is unique, so the work stays interesting. If you want to grow, there's room to get into die design, automation and PLC integration, and equipment build. We're also investing in documenting our tooling know-how, so your knowledge is valued, not just your hours. Northland Plastics, Inc. is an equal opportunity employer.
