Full Job Description Sanitation Supervisor Department:
Production Position Summary The Sanitation Supervisor is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing all sanitation activities to ensure compliance with company food safety and quality standards. This position leads the sanitation team in maintaining a clean, sanitary, and safe production environment while ensuring compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and all applicable food safety regulations. The Sanitation Supervisor works closely with the Production Manager, Quality Assurance team, Maintenance, and Human Resources to implement sanitation programs, verify cleaning effectiveness, support audits, train employees, and promote a culture of continuous improvement and food safety. Essential Duties & Responsibilities The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Leadership & Supervision Supervise, coach, and motivate sanitation employees to maintain high performance standards. Develop weekly sanitation schedules in coordination with Human Resources and Production. Assign daily responsibilities and monitor completion of all sanitation tasks. Conduct employee performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching and development. Promote teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement. Food Safety & Regulatory Compliance Ensure compliance with: Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), HACCP Food Safety Programs, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), SSOPs (Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures), Company Quality Assurance policies, OSHA safety requirements, FDA and applicable regulatory standards, Maintain sanitation documentation, verification records, and sanitation logs. Develop, maintain, and execute the Master Sanitation Schedule. Verify effectiveness of cleaning and sanitizing procedures through routine inspections. Sanitation Operations Oversee cleaning and sanitizing of: Production equipment Food-contact surfaces Processing rooms Warehouses Storage areas Employee welfare areas Ensure all sanitation tasks are completed according to established procedures. Prioritize sanitation activities to minimize production downtime. Safety Promote and enforce safe work practices. Conduct sanitation safety training.
Ensure proper use of:
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Lockout/Tagout procedures Chemical handling procedures Maintain compliance with OSHA regulations. Equipment & Chemical Management Maintain inventory of sanitation chemicals and supplies. Verify proper chemical concentrations and safe handling procedures. Coordinate repairs and preventive maintenance for sanitation equipment. Review equipment design and modifications to improve cleanability and sanitation efficiency. Audits & Continuous Improvement Support internal, customer, regulatory, and third-party food safety audits. Assist in corrective and preventive actions (CAPA). Participate in pest management activities. Monitor sanitation Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and identify opportunities for improvement. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve sanitation processes and operational efficiency. Administrative Responsibilities Maintain accurate sanitation records and documentation. Manage sanitation labor hours within budget. Communicate sanitation issues and corrective actions to management. Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications Related field or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience. Experience Minimum two (2) years of supervisory experience in food manufacturing sanitation. Minimum two (2) years of experience with food industry sanitation systems. Experience leading sanitation teams in a GMP-regulated food manufacturing environment. Required Knowledge & Skills Strong understanding of: GMPs HACCP SSOPs Food Safety Programs Sanitation validation and verification COP (Clean-Out-of-Place) CIP (Clean-In-Place) Chemical safety and handling Knowledge of FDA and OSHA regulations. Strong leadership and employee development skills. Excellent communication and organizational abilities. Ability to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
