Summary:

Assist with the construction, modification, maintenance, or replacement of municipally owned sewer system. Perform unskilled or semi-skilled tasks associated with the operation, maintenance, and distribution of sewer systems and facilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 1. Assist with the maintenance and repair of: A. Sewer distribution mains and laterals. B. Lift stations 2. Assist with the installation of sewer laterals. 3. Perform unskilled labor associated with excavation, installation or repair of lines, and equipment. 4. Set up and maintain traffic control devices needed to close roads due to water work. 5. Use jackhammer, air compressor, and hydraulic tampers to remove asphalt or concrete needed to install, repair, or replace sewer mains and laterals. 6. Respond to after hour emergencies as directed. 7. Requisition necessary supplies, materials, and equipment as needed. 8. Assist with snow removal as directed and help with other departments as needed. 9. Operate town owned vehicles not to exceed 26,000 GVW. 10. Perform operator inspections, and preventive maintenance to assigned vehicle. 11. Clean and wash department vehicles. 12. Apply paint, and protective coating to wastewater facilities as required. 13. Perform other duties in shop or other departments as assigned or directed by foreman.

Competencies:

• Ability to drive pick-up trucks, dump trucks, and to use gas, and hydraulic power tools.
• Knowledge of wastewater distribution system.
• Basic knowledge of safety procedures.
• Basic knowledge and principals of construction.
• Ability to solve common or routine problems.

Education and/or

Experience:

• High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
• Required to obtain CDL Class B License within six months of hire.
• Basic knowledge of lift station operations necessary.
• Need to attend Basic Wastewater certification course as required by the State.
• Attend classes to obtain certificate of completion. Language Skills
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, and small group situations with other employees of the organization. Mathematical Skills
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
