Job Description
The Waste Treatment Operator is responsible for the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of wastewater treatment systems within a chemical processing, plating, and metal finishing facility. This role ensures wastewater is treated in compliance with environmental regulations, supports safe chemical handling practices, and maintains accurate operational records while contributing to the facility's environmental stewardship and regulatory compliance Duties Operate and monitor wastewater treatment equipment including pumps, tanks, clarifiers, filter presses, and chemical feed systems. Collect wastewater samples and perform routine testing for pH, metals, and other treatment parameters. Adjust chemical treatment processes to ensure compliance with discharge permits and environmental regulations. Monitor treatment system performance and respond to process deviations or alarms. Maintain accurate treatment logs, inspection records, and compliance documentation. Assist with environmental reporting and regulatory inspections. Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal environmental regulations. Support facility initiatives related to waste reduction and environmental sustainability. Safely handle, transfer, and mix treatment chemicals including acids, caustics, coagulants, and flocculants. Follow established procedures for chemical usage, spill prevention, and emergency response. Assist in the treatment and management of hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams. Maintain proper chemical inventory levels and storage practices. Experience Proven experience working in wastewater treatment plants or water treatment facilities with a solid understanding of wastewater systems. Hands-on experience operating industrial pumps and water treatment equipment. Familiarity with environmental regulations related to wastewater treatment and water quality standards. Mechanical knowledge for equipment repair, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance of pumps and other machinery. Construction experience is a plus for site upgrades or infrastructure projects involving heavy lifting and equipment installation. Strong analysis skills combined with basic math proficiency for data interpretation and process adjustments.
