TREATMENT PLANT EQUIPMENT OPERATOR I GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

To be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of assigned trucks, automotive equipment, power-driven equipment and tools; to perform strenuous physical labor on construction, maintenance, and repair work; to perform miscellaneous maintenance, minor adjustments, lubrication routines; and to perform related work as required.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Work is performed under the supervision of the WWTP Supervisor I or Water Filtration Supervisor I, or other designated official.

TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK

An employee in this class may be called upon to do any or all of the following: (These examples do not include all of the tasks which the employee may be expected to perform.) Operate a van, pick-up truck, or heavier truck to perform duties at remote sites, move equipment and supplies to and from remote sites, and make rounds and obtain materials. Operate pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical equipment, including grease pumps, oil pumps, oil evacuation equipment, air compressors, water traps, air dryers, and other similar equipment, and be familiar with the safety aspects associated with the use of such equipment. Be familiar with basic hand tools required in the adjustment, lubrication, and minor adjustments associated with pumps, air compressors for instrument air, hoses, grease and oil reservoirs, grease and oil drains and similar devices. Read and understand lubrication cross reference manuals, manufacturers= suggested preventive maintenance routines for equipment, lubrication specifications for common industrial oils, greases, soaps, desiccants, etc. Be responsible for the preparation and maintenance of accurate records and reports associated with the proper lubrication of equipment and machinery. Properly dispose of used lubricants. Perform lawn maintenance activities, including the operation of a tractor mower, walk-behind mower, edger, hedge trimmer, and other equipment associated with this activity. Cut, prune, weed, and spray trees, shrubs, and grass. Perform snow removal activities, including the operation of a pick-up truck snow plow, tractor snow plow/snow blower, walk-behind snow blower, spread salt, and other equipment associated with this activity. Perform manual labor, janitorial duties, and a variety of tasks involving physical strength and agility. Perform minor carpentry, construction, and bench repair work. Operate paint-spraying equipment. Make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment and facilities. Operate high-pressure washer and steam-cleaner. Lubricate, fuel and clean equipment as required. Perform related work as required.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT

Knowledge of the operation and maintenance requirements of various automotive and power-driven equipment, including pumps, gear boxes, power drive trains, electric motors, air compressors, etc. Knowledge of work methods, practices and procedures involved in a variety of construction, maintenance and repair activities. Knowledge of traffic laws and safe driving practices. Familiarity with streets and principle locations in the city. Ability to operate automotive equipment skillfully, safely, and in accordance with rules and regulations, and an understanding of the basic requirements of traffic control when working in the flow of traffic. Ability to perform heavy manual labor under all types of weather and other conditions. Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records and reports. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Mechanical aptitude. Ability to work effectively with the public and other employees. Ability to climb ladders and enter confined spaces safely and with ease. Should have 1 year experience driving a semi-tractor trailer with a minimum of 26,001 GVW, and can verify this experience. An employee in this class, upon appointment, shall have the equivalent of the following training and experience: Graduation from an accredited high school. Proper training of, and the ability to properly use, air quality monitoring devices for hazardous atmospheres when entering confined spaces. Responsible experience in the operation of automotive and power-driven equipment. Must have a valid Michigan Driver License (Operator's). Must have a valid Michigan Commercial Driver License (CDL), Group A/Air. "N" Endorsement required with the ability to operate a 5th wheel plate and manual transmission at the WWTP.
