Job Description

Description The Environmental Services Department of the City of Springfield is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Landfill Supervisor . This position will work alongside and report to the Superintendent of Solid Waste. This position serves as a key member of the Noble Hill Sanitary Landfill leadership team dedicated to achieving efficient operations and exceptional customer service through communication, team development, cohesiveness, and safety. These are accomplished and achieved through principles followed within the Trust Edge framework and are modeled at the City through processes, relationships, and trust. The Landfill Supervisor will manage and direct landfill operations, oversee professional crew leaders, equipment operators, maintenance workers, heavy vehicle technicians, and work alongside and provide operational support to Environmental Specialists and support staff. Qualifications and Requirements Experience, Education, and Training Requires a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in landfill operations, earthwork, quarries, or highway construction which includes environmental compliance and the operations of various types of heavy construction equipment; AND Three years of experience in a supervisory role; Graduation from an accredited college with Bachelor's in Construction Management, Environmental Science, or related degree may be considered in lieu of some experience;
PREFERRED
Advanced study and certification in various technical, environmental, and operational aspects of sanitary landfill development, operation, monitoring, and closure. Licensing/Certification MDNR Solid Waste Technician Certificate required within probationary period; MSHA Surface Mine Haulage Safety with the probationary period; Manager of Landfill Operations (MOLO) Certification and Landfill Gas System Operations and Maintenance issued by the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) required within probationary period; Valid driver's license required; Class B Commercial Drivers License required within the probationary period.
