Job Description

Job Summary:
The Wastewater Operator (WWO) II position shall have a certification level 1 for wastewater system operation from EPA or equivalent. Pueblo of San Felipe to provide training and cover associated costs to attain certification. Have previous experience in the utility construction field. Must have some knowledge and the ability to operate heavy equipment such as skid steers, mini-excavators, backhoes, front end loaders up to 6CY bucket capacity, all requirements of WWO I. Must have familiarity in membrane bioreactor system for wastewater treatment, lift stations, and wastewater appurtenances. Experience performing wastewater sampling.
Essential Duties:
Help in the day-to-day operations, repair and maintenance of the wastewater treatment plant, lift stations, and wastewater appurtenances. Use of a variety of hand tools (i.e., shovels, rakes, sledge hammers, power drills, power saws, grease gun, air tools, water pumps, jumping jack and flat plate tampers, etc.). Responsible for performing work by following instructions of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Foreman for assigned projects to be undertaken by the Wastewater Division.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent. Must have a Wastewater Level I Certification and obtain a WW II certification within 6-months.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Must have a Level I Wastewater Certification from EPA or equivalent and obtain a WW II certification within 6-months. Must assist to maintain Wastewater Treatment Plant. Must have some knowledge of operation of small heavy equipment. Must be able to take direction and be familiar with a variety of hand tools. Will help in completing wastewater treatment plant projects whether in-house of via contract. Will be responsible for learning all safety requirements of the department and be required to attend training as needed.
Required Licenses/Certifications:
A valid driver's license. Wastewater Level I Certification.
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands require outside work in all seasons and for prolonged periods of time. May require driving in variable weather conditions. Requires walking in undeveloped and uneven terrain.
Preferences:
San Felipe Member Preference, Native American Preference and Veteran's Preference. Preferred Qualifications - Keres speaking is desirable.
