This leadership role is responsible for developing and executing the strategic vision for the water treatment business while overseeing operations, service delivery, customer satisfaction and financial performance. The Director of Water Treatment will lead a team of water treatment professionals, collaborate with company leadership, and ensure the delivery of innovative, high-quality water treatment solutions for HVAC, industrial, and process water systems. This individual will be responsible for driving operational excellence, expanding market share, maintaining regulatory compliance, and building long-term customer relationships. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Strategic Leadership Develop and execute the strategic vision for the Water Treatment division in alignment with company goals. Establish annual business plans, operational objectives, and performance metrics. Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, customer satisfaction, and profitability. Identify opportunities to expand service offerings, improve efficiencies, and increase revenue. Operational Leadership Direct all day-to-day operations of the water treatment department. Ensure exceptional service delivery across all customer accounts. Develop standardized operating procedures and best practices. Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement corrective actions as needed. Ensure all projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget. Team Leadership & Development Recruit, mentor, develop, and retain high-performing water treatment professionals. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, safety, and continuous learning. Provide coaching, performance evaluations, and professional development opportunities. Build succession plans and strengthen the technical capabilities of the department. Customer & Business Development Serve as the senior technical advisor for key customer relationships. Partner with Sales and Operations teams to identify and pursue new business opportunities. Collaborate with Business Development to support proposal development, customer presentations, and contract negotiations. Develop long-term partnerships with commercial, industrial, and institutional clients. Resolve complex customer issues while maintaining the highest level of customer satisfaction. Technical Leadership Maintain expertise in commercial and industrial water treatment technologies, chemical programs, and industry best practices. Oversee water treatment programs for HVAC systems, including: Cooling Towers Chilled Water Systems Hot Water Boiler Systems Closed Loop Systems Condenser Water Systems Process Water Applications Ensure proper equipment selection, controller programming, chemical treatment strategies, and system optimization. Stay current on emerging technologies and recommend innovative solutions. Financial Management Develop and manage departmental budgets. Monitor revenue, gross margins, labor utilization, and operating expenses. Drive profitable growth while maintaining exceptional service quality. Forecast staffing, inventory, equipment, and resource needs. Compliance & Safety Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, local, state, and federal regulations. Promote a strong safety culture throughout the organization. Oversee chemical handling procedures, environmental compliance, and documentation. Maintain quality assurance standards across all customer accounts.
Education & Experience Required:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Business, Construction Management, or related field (equivalent industry experience considered). 8+ years of progressive experience in commercial or industrial water treatment. Minimum 5 years of leadership or management experience. Demonstrated success leading service operations and technical teams. Strong knowledge of HVAC water treatment systems including cooling towers, chillers, boilers, and closed-loop systems. Experience managing customer relationships and large commercial accounts.
Preferred:
Certified Water Technologist (CWT) Association of Water Technologies (AWT) certifications OSHA certifications EPA Refrigerant Certification Experience with industrial water treatment systems Experience managing departmental budgets and P&L responsibility Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Extensive knowledge of commercial and industrial water treatment chemistry. Expertise in water treatment controllers, pumps, chemical feed systems, and automation. Strong understanding of HVAC mechanical systems and water chemistry. Knowledge of corrosion control, scale prevention, microbiological control, and water analysis. Excellent leadership, coaching, and organizational skills. Strong financial and business acumen. Exceptional communication and presentation skills. Ability to build lasting customer relationships. Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving abilities. Experience developing operational processes and performance metrics. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and CRM/service management software. The Director Water Treatment must be able to inspect equipment, visit customer facilities, and occasionally assist with field operations. The employee must be able to: Travel throughout the service territory as needed. Walk active construction and mechanical room environments. Climb ladders and stairs when necessary. Lift up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis. Work around water treatment chemicals and mechanical equipment while following all required safety procedures. Occasionally work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, or confined spaces during site evaluations.
