Job Description
The Systems Maintenance Chief is a supervisory position which encompasses skilled and semi-skilled mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of equipment, sewers both combination and sanitary, along with buildings and related appurtenances for the Waste Water Division. The Systems Maintenance Chief in this class oversees mechanical, laboring, and related activities in the wastewater division, including regulators, overflow, tide gates, meter chambers, pumping and ejector stations, and has responsibility for making work assignments and for inspecting, operating and maintenance appurtenances continuously operate at top-efficiency. Supervision is exercised over a staff of skilled and semi-skilled personnel for the maintenance of combination and sanitary sewers. Makes periodic inspections of equipment and facilities to determine that equipment is functioning smoothly, efficiently and effectively. Discusses with Director of Waste-Water, Superintendent, or assigned supervisor questions which might arise concerning operation of equipment, maintenance of structures and or personnel problems. Supervises and inspects a wide variety of mechanical equipment, recording devices, electrical motors and blowers, valves and compressors, along with configuration pumps. May be assigned to operate treatment plant during emergency situations. Be subject to 24 hour emergency call-outs and rotating shifts. As required, enters computer data and produces records related to sewer maintenance tracking system. Have a vast knowledge of the storm and sanitary sewer system within the City and immediate area serviced by the Wastewater Treatment Plant. This position will serve as operator of record for the City of Youngstown Wastewater Collection System as per Ohio EPA regulations. Must have (4) years or more years experience in maintenance of the entire collection system. Considerable knowledge of the operation and maintenance of all equipment available to perform the maintenance of the system which includes combined and sanitary sewers. Must currently possess a valid Ohio EPA Wastewater Collection I or Wastewater Operator I license. Must obtain a Wastewater Collection II or Wastewater Operator II License as issued by the Ohio EPA within two years of appointment or be removed from the position. Must currently hold an maintain a valid State of Ohio Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or B with Tanker and air brake endorsement while employed in this position.
