Job Overview:
The Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County is seeking a skilled and reliable Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator to support the daily operation, monitoring, and maintenance of the Authority's Jeannette Sewage Treatment Plant. The operator will ensure safe, compliant, and efficient treatment of wastewater in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations. This position performs both technical and hands‑on operational work within an activated sludge‑based treatment process.
Responsibilities:
Operate and maintain plant systems including motors, pumps, feed systems, , flow meters, and related wastewater equipment. Conduct routine sampling and perform chemical and biological tests of influent and effluent to ensure compliance with permit requirements. Record operational data, maintain logs, and complete regulatory reporting accurately and on schedule. Inspect equipment and systems regularly; identify issues, perform routine maintenance, and coordinate repairs as needed. Assist with training and demonstrating proper operation and maintenance procedures to staff when assigned. Follow all safety procedures, including proper handling of chemicals, confined space protocols, and emergency response actions. Perform detail-oriented work and maintain good housekeeping in all work areas Conduct sample collection, testing, and keeping accurate records Perform other duties as assigned by Wastewater Supervisors and the
Superintendent Requirements:
Valid driver's license Pennsylvania Class B Wastewater Operator Certification Prior experience working in a municipal wastewater treatment facility or similar utility environment. Knowledge of activated sludge processes and plant monitoring practices Ability to demonstrate skills in wastewater operations, sample collection and testing, data recording, mechanical work, and housekeeping SBR process and activated sludge systems experience Ability to meet all physical requirements of plant operation, including lifting, climbing, and working in outdoor conditions. Basic mechanical aptitude and comfort with plant equipment and tools. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook Why MAWC?
