Job Description

This position is responsible for operating the wastewater treatment plant. The Wastewater plant collects wastewater and treats the water. The operator uses computer equipment and testing to ensure water is treated and is safe to return to the environment. Performs other work as required. Employees in this class are under supervision of the Wastewater Plant Manager. Conducts bacteriological and chemical tests required by local, state and federal regulations Observes the conditions of sewage entering the treatment plant, adjusts the addition of chemicals for proper sewage treatment according to prescribed standards Adjusts the composition of chemicals used in treating wastewater Insures that all systems are working properly including the primary and secondary clarifiers, chlorinators, and filters Insures the timely and accurate completion of a variety of reports as required by local, state, and federal regulations May drive wastewater truck and haul sludge Performs additional duties or emergency duties after normal working hours when requested by supervisor Performs other jobs as required Performs maintenance on pumps and other equipment, including packing bearings on motors, changing or adding oil, makes necessary repairs on equipment, washes tanks, etc. Minimum Requirements High School Degree Ability to obtain grade IV water treatment certification within 5 years
