JOB DESCRIPTION
Holds responsibility for the efficient operation and maintenance of water treatment plants and equipment productively. Employees in this class report to the immediate supervisor, if not available report to the Public Works Director. Employees work on an assigned shift, often independently, but under established guidelines.
Tasks performed include:
(1) operates and cleans plant; (2) inspects motors, bearing and gear boxes for proper lubrication; (3) takes chemical test and computes dosage required for treatment; (4) changes filters as necessary; (5) operates light and heavy equipment, trucks, loaders, etc.; (6) maintains equipment as necessary on a routine schedule; (7) performs manual work; (8) adjusts equipment as necessary to achieve acceptable treatment levels; (9) keeps records and logs of time, material and equipment used; (10) prepares routine reports; (11) cross train with other departments; (12) will agree to provide backup services to the departments and on-call crews when emergencies arise; (13) performs other duties as required. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Obtain Wastewater Plant Operator C or Water Plant C Certification within two years of employment; Class D Water & Wastewater in one year. EXPERIENCE
None required for entry into this position.
KNOWLEDGE
Principles and practices applied to the operation and maintenance of pump and treatment process equipment. Proper licensing expected as necessary to perform duties.
SKILLS:
Read meters, gauges and scales; operation of related equipment.
ABILITY:
Inspect plant machinery equipment in operation and detect flaws and defects in equipment. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds, with unrestrictive use of hands and fingers. Must be able to bend, stoop and climb stairs. Must be able to work outdoors in extreme cold and heat and be exposed to sunlight. Requires a command of the English language and the ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and City Officials.

Good attendance, working assigned schedule, compliance with timekeeping requirements, ability to stay on task and work well with others, follow all policies and procedures of The City of Snyder.
