Impact of the Role General Profile Requires specialized expertise in technical processes or procedures Completes assignments and facilitates the work activities of others; may coordinate work beyond own area May act as a lead, providing subject matter guidance to team members but is not a supervisor Works autonomously within established procedures and practices; proposing improvements to processes and methods as needed May also be in charge of leading training for employees Performs manual tasks according to established procedures Essential Functions Joins, fabricates, and repairs metal parts and other weldable material to form permanent bonds by applying appropriate welding techniques. Prepares the materials and set up for a welding device or robot. Welds metal components and parts using specialized equipment such as gas welders and gas torches. Uses electrical currents to create heat and bond metals. Plans work by interpreting blueprints, specifications, diagrams, or schematics. Observes tests on welded surfaces to evaluate weld quality and conformance to specifications. Required Qualifications Required education and experience: Vocational/Technical Training Degree and 7-8 years' experience OR Equivalent Combination of Relevant Education &/or Experience Preferred Qualifications Preferred education and experience:
Associate's Degree Discipline/Major:
Technical training preferred Knowledge, skills & abilities: Technical expertise. Planning skills. Detail oriented. Manual dexterity. Welding. Inspection. Safety procedures. Reading blueprints/diagrams. Team Leadership Training and Experience Physical Requirements Requires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities. Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds. May need to stand for long periods of time. Work may require employee to work inside and outside with exposure to changing climate and/or operate machinery. May be requested to work a different shift. Must be willing to work outside normal business hours as required. This position is Safety-Sensitive.
Travel Requirements:
Requires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities. Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds. May need to stand for long periods of time. Work may require employee to work inside and outside with exposure to changing climate and/or operate machinery. May be requested to work a different shift.
