Job Title:
MIG Welder Job Description Join a busy fabrication shop in Decatur, AL as a full-time MIG Welder on a stable weekday day shift. You will perform manual welding and grinding on a variety of metal components, read basic fabrication instructions, and help maintain high quality and safety standards throughout the production process. Responsibilities Perform MIG welding on various metal components, including mild steel, stainless steel, and structural steel, according to job specifications. Set up, operate, and adjust MIG welding equipment and feeders to achieve strong, clean welds. Use grinding tools to prep, smooth, and finish welds to meet quality and appearance standards. Read and interpret basic blueprints, fabrication drawings, and tape measure readings to complete accurate welds and assemblies. Utilize hand tools and fabrication tools to fit, align, and assemble metal parts before welding. Inspect welds and finished parts to ensure they meet quality standards and production requirements. Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet daily production goals and timelines. Participate in and successfully complete a weld test and grinding test as part of the hiring and onboarding process. Essential Skills Proven MIG welding experience in a fabrication or similar metalworking environment. Strong manual welding skills with the ability to produce consistent, structurally sound welds. Proficiency in grinding and metal finishing to prepare and refine welded components. Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints and fabrication instructions. Competence using a tape measure and other basic measuring tools to ensure accurate cuts and fits. Experience working with mild steel, stainless steel, and structural steel materials. Familiarity with hand tools and common fabrication tools used in a weld shop. Ability to pass a hands-on weld test and grinding test as part of the selection process. Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality and safety. Reliable work habits and the ability to meet production timelines on a consistent weekday schedule. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in a fabrication shop environment is preferred. Experience with TIG welding is a plus. Comfort working with both manual welding processes and fabrication equipment. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in a fast-paced shop. Personal welding hood and gloves required; familiarity with maintaining personal protective equipment is beneficial. Why Work Here? Team members typically wear appropriate work attire suitable for a metal fabrication environment, along with personal protective equipment such as a welding hood, gloves, and other safety gear as required. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Decatur, AL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
