Job Description

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to complete welding projects throughout the City of Montgomery. The work responsibilities include completing welding projects, including building, installing, and repairing fences, overseeing and coordinating the daily activities of assigned crew members, and performing administrative duties. Work is performed with considerable independent judgement. Welders in the Street Maintenance Department are supervised by the Maintenance Supervisor, Street Maintenance Superintendent, or Maintenance Department Director. Welders in the Parks and Recreation Department are supervised by the District Parks Maintenance Supervisor. Welders in the Leisure Services Department are supervised by the Parks and Recreation Supervisor. High school diploma or G.E.D. and two years of experience performing welding tasks. Must possess a Welder's certification.
NOTE :
Qualifying education, training, and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job will be considered. Must possess a Welder's certification. Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Alabama driver's license and possess an insurable driving record to operate city vehicles. Availability to be on call 24 hours with the flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed for special emergencies and/or special events.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work primarily takes place in an outdoor setting, with frequent exposure to loud noise, dirt, dust, fumes, and adverse weather conditions, such as rain, extreme heat, and cold.
