POSITION SUMMARY
Pier Solutions is seeking experienced Combo Welders to support ship repair, marine construction, maintenance, and fabrication operations in a shipyard environment. The Combo Welder is responsible for performing high-quality welding and fabrication using multiple welding processes, including SMAW (Stick), GMAW (MIG), GTAW (TIG), and FCAW (Flux-Cored) , depending on project requirements. The ideal candidate will have shipyard welding experience, the ability to work from drawings and welding procedures, and a strong commitment to safety, quality, and productivity.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform welding and fabrication work on ships, vessels, piping, structural components, tanks, decks, bulkheads, foundations, and other marine structures. Perform welding using multiple processes, including: SMAW / Stick FCAW / Flux-Core
GMAW / MIG GTAW / TIG
Weld carbon steel, stainless steel, and other metals as required by the project. Read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and work specifications. Follow approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and project requirements. Perform welding in various positions, including 1G, 2G, 3G, and 4G , as applicable. Perform overhead, vertical, horizontal, and flat-position welding. Set up and operate welding machines, grinders, cutting equipment, and related tools. Perform fit-up, tack welding, grinding, beveling, cutting, and other preparation activities. Inspect completed welds for proper penetration, appearance, dimensions, and defects. Make necessary weld repairs and corrections as directed. Maintain welding equipment and tools in safe operating condition. Work in confined spaces, elevated areas, tanks, machinery spaces, and other challenging shipboard environments when required. Maintain a clean and organized work area. Follow all company, shipyard, OSHA, and project-specific safety requirements. Properly use required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Communicate effectively with supervisors, welders, fitters, shipyard personnel, and other trades. Perform other duties related to ship repair and welding operations as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Previous professional welding experience required. Shipyard, marine, industrial, or heavy fabrication welding experience strongly preferred. Ability to perform multiple welding processes. Ability to read blueprints, drawings, weld symbols, and welding procedures. Ability to safely operate welding equipment, grinders, torches, and hand/power tools. Ability to work independently and as part of a crew. Ability to work in physically demanding shipyard conditions. Must be willing to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying weather conditions. Must be able to pass applicable shipyard safety orientations and required training. Must be able to pass required welding qualification tests when applicable. Must follow all safety and quality requirements.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The Combo Welder must be capable of: Standing and walking for extended periods. Bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, and climbing ladders. Working in confined and restricted spaces. Working at elevated heights. Lifting and carrying welding equipment and materials. Wearing required PPE for extended periods. Performing welding in awkward and difficult positions. Working around noise, heat, fumes, dust, and other normal shipyard conditions.
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

Follow all OSHA and applicable maritime safety requirements. Follow shipyard-specific safety rules and procedures. Attend required safety training and toolbox meetings. Properly inspect and use PPE. Follow Hot Work procedures and permit requirements. Follow confined-space entry requirements when applicable. Maintain proper ventilation and fire-prevention controls during welding operations. Immediately report unsafe conditions, injuries, incidents, or equipment deficiencies. Maintain a safe work area and protect personnel and property from welding and cutting hazards.
PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS / QUALIFICATIONS
The following may be required or preferred depending on the project: Current shipyard welding qualifications. AWS welding qualifications. NAVSEA welding qualifications. ABS or other applicable classification society qualifications. OSHA Maritime training. Shipyard safety orientation. Hot Work training. Confined Space training. Fall Protection training. Respiratory Protection training. Forklift or crane/rigging qualifications, when applicable.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position is primarily performed in a shipyard and marine environment . The employee may be required to work aboard vessels, in dry docks, fabrication areas, tanks, machinery spaces, confined spaces, elevated locations, and other industrial environments. Work may involve exposure to welding fumes, smoke, heat, noise, dust, vibration, machinery, chemicals, and changing weather conditions.

Work schedules may vary based on shipyard operations and project requirements.
The position may require:
Day or night shifts. Overtime. Weekends and holidays. Extended shifts. Emergency or project-specific work schedules.
