Job Title:
Code Welder (TIG / MIG / Flux Core) Job Description This role focuses on the engineering and manufacturing of steam generation and gas turbine co-generation equipment, with a strong emphasis on code welding. You will lay out, fit, and weld a wide variety of weldments, pressure vessels, and piping in accordance with A.S.M.E. boiler codes, established weld procedures, and specific customer requirements. Depending on your skill level, you will primarily perform TIG welding or a combination of TIG and MIG welding on complex, high-specification projects. Responsibilities Lay out, fit, and weld a variety of weldments, pressure vessels, and piping in accordance with A.S.M.E. boiler codes and approved weld procedures. Interpret and work from blueprints and technical drawings to ensure accurate fabrication and assembly of components. Perform TIG welding as a primary process for level one code welding assignments. Perform a mix of TIG and MIG welding for level two code welding assignments, handling a broader range of weld types and materials. Execute code piping work, including fitting and welding interconnecting pipe runs that will later be assembled in the field. Perform code welding of boiler tubes to pressure parts in accordance with applicable standards and customer specifications. Fabricate structural steel casings customized to surround pressure vessels installed in power plant environments. Use flux core and stick welding processes as required for specific projects and materials. Work with stainless steel, mild steel, and other alloys, ensuring proper preparation, fit-up, and weld quality. Conduct visual checks and basic quality verification of welds to meet internal and customer quality requirements. Follow all safety procedures and maintain a safe work area in a large manufacturing environment. Collaborate with other welders, fitters, and fabrication personnel to complete complex and large-scale projects on schedule. Essential Skills At least 3 years of experience in TIG welding and/or Flux Core welding. Ability to pass a 6G weld test. Ability to pass a relevant code welding test as required for the role. Hands-on pipe welding experience gained on the job. Proficiency in TIG welding on various materials. Proficiency in flux core welding for structural and pressure applications. Experience with MIG welding in a fabrication environment. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and fabrication drawings accurately. Experience with stick welding for structural or pressure components. Capability to weld and fabricate using stainless steel and mild steel. Strong fitting skills for pressure vessels, piping, and structural steel assemblies. Ability to work to A.S.M.E. boiler codes and follow established weld procedures. Solid general welding and fabrication experience in an industrial or manufacturing setting. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in a heavy industrial or similar environment, such as large tank or pressure vessel fabrication facilities. Tech school degree or formal education in welding is strongly preferred but not required. Experience TIG welding on pipe is highly desirable. Background in complex fabrication work related to boiler systems, foundries, or oil and gas applications. Familiarity with working on large, customized structural steel casings and pressure vessel assemblies. Comfort working with a variety of welding processes, including TIG, MIG, flux core, and stick welding. Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in a large manufacturing environment that is typical of heavy industrial fabrication facilities. The shop is somewhat dirty due to the nature of welding, cutting, and fabrication work, and you will work around heavy equipment, pressure vessels, piping, and structural steel. You will use a variety of welding equipment and processes, including TIG, MIG, flux core, and stick welding, as well as standard fabrication tools for fitting and assembly. The setting supports large-scale projects for steam generation and gas turbine co-generation systems, with an emphasis on boiler systems for foundry and oil/gas applications. Work hours align with standard manufacturing shifts, with additional overtime available during busy periods. Appropriate industrial workwear and protective gear are required to ensure safety and compliance with shop practices. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Plymouth, MN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $32.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
