Welder Job Description This role focuses on MIG welding structural steel components in a professional fabrication environment. You will interpret blueprints and weld symbols, perform fit-up and fabrication of structural assemblies, and support safe material handling throughout the plant using overhead cranes. The position offers steady, hands-on work on large-scale structural steel projects that demand precision, craftsmanship, and adherence to safety standards. Responsibilities Perform MIG welding on structural steel components using a wire feed gun in accordance with project specifications and quality standards. Read and interpret blueprints and welding symbols to plan and execute welds accurately on structural steel assemblies. Fit up structural steel based on welding blueprints, including layout, alignment, and preparation of materials prior to welding. Assist with fabrication tasks such as fitting, tacking, and assembling structural steel members and complex structures. Use an overhead crane and rigging techniques to safely unload parts and move structural beams throughout the plant. Inspect welds and structural assemblies for accuracy, quality, and compliance with drawings and weld symbols. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, following all plant safety procedures and PPE requirements. Collaborate with team members, supervisors, and other departments to complete projects on schedule and resolve fabrication or fit-up issues. Operate welding and fabrication equipment in a safe manner and report any equipment issues or hazards promptly. Essential Skills Minimum 1+ years of recent MIG welding experience. Minimum 1+ years of recent structural steel welding experience. Proficiency in MIG welding on structural steel using a wire feed gun. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and weld symbols accurately. Hands-on experience with structural welding in a weld or fabrication shop environment. Demonstrated ability to perform fit up, fabrication, and tack welding on structural assemblies. Familiarity with flux core and MIG welding processes for structural applications. Ability to assist with rigging and using overhead cranes to move structural beams safely. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality welds and assemblies. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in a structural steel fabrication or weld shop environment. Experience in fitting, fabrication, and structural assembly work. Comfort working with large-scale structural steel and complex assemblies. Ability to work collaboratively in a team-driven environment focused on safety and accountability. Work Environment This role is based in a non-climate-controlled fabrication and weld shop focused on structural steel production. The standard schedule runs from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with some Saturday work as needed. The environment involves working around large structural beams, overhead cranes, and active fabrication equipment. Personal protective equipment is required at all times, including steel-toe footwear, hard hat, safety glasses, and gloves. The setting is hands-on, industrial, and team-oriented, with a strong emphasis on safety and adherence to shop procedures. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cocoa, FL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $32.00/hr.
