Day Shift Description:
The Welder performs skilled welding and metal fabrication work in support of maintenance, repair, and capital projects throughout Holy Cross Health's campus and FSED facilities. This role supports structural repairs, equipment fabrication, and piping system work in compliance with hospital safety standards, NFPA fire codes, and Joint Commission Environment of Care requirements.
What you will do:
Welding & Fabrication Perform MIG, TIG, and stick welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum components. Fabricate custom brackets, frames, supports, and metal components from drawings or specifications. Perform plasma cutting, grinding, and metal finishing operations. Maintenance & Repair Conduct structural repairs on equipment, carts, beds, and building infrastructure. Support pipefitting team with welded piping joints on steam, water, and utility systems. Respond to urgent repair needs requiring metal fabrication or on-site welding. Safety & Compliance Maintain hot work permit compliance per TJC Environment of Care and
NFPA 51B
requirements. Ensure work area is secured with appropriate fire watch protocols. Complete all welding work orders in CMMS with accurate documentation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High school diploma or GED required; completion of welding program or apprenticeship preferred
Experience:
3+ years welding experience in commercial, industrial, or healthcare facilities
Licenses/Certifications:
AWS Certified Welder (SMAW/MIG/TIG) preferred; OSHA 10 required
Technology/Tools:
MIG, TIG, Stick welders; plasma cutter; grinder; Brightly Worxhub CMMS Preferred Qualifications AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or in pursuit. Experience with medical gas piping brazed joints (NFPA 99). Familiarity with hospital hot work permit procedures. Forklift operator certification.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and perform overhead welding. Exposure to extreme heat, sparks, fumes, and UV radiation — full PPE required at all times. Work in confined spaces, elevated platforms, and outdoor environments. On-call availability for urgent structural or piping repairs.
