Production Welding Lead Job Description This role leads a small team of welders in a busy fabrication shop, ensuring high-quality structural steel welds are completed safely, efficiently, and according to blueprints and production schedules. The position combines hands-on welding and fabrication with day-to-day leadership responsibilities in a production environment. Responsibilities Lead and oversee a team of approximately 35 welders in a production fabrication environment. Perform hands-on welding and fabrication work, including MIG, flux core, and stick welding on structural steel components. Read and interpret blueprints and fabrication drawings to guide the team and ensure accurate production. Assign daily tasks, organize workflow, and monitor progress to meet production goals and deadlines. Inspect welds and fabricated parts for quality, accuracy, and adherence to specifications and safety standards. Provide on-the-job guidance, coaching, and support to welders to maintain consistent quality and productivity. Coordinate with other shop personnel to ensure materials, tools, and equipment are available and properly used. Promote and enforce safe work practices, including proper use of welding equipment and personal protective equipment. Assist in troubleshooting fabrication or welding issues and implement practical solutions on the shop floor. Maintain a clean and organized work area to support efficient and safe operations. Essential Skills Proven experience in welding within a production or fabrication environment. Strong MIG welding skills with the ability to produce consistent, high-quality welds. Hands-on experience with flux core and stick welding processes. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and structural steel drawings. Demonstrated leadership ability to direct and support a team of welders. Solid understanding of structural steel fabrication practices. Commitment to safe work practices and adherence to shop safety procedures. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience as a lead, lead person, or similar role in a fabrication or welding shop. Strong communication skills to clearly relay instructions and feedback to team members. Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a production setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Dalton, GA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $29.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
