This is a metal job first. We build, repair and restore soda fountains — the real ones, the kind with marble and stainless and pumps that were made before anybody reading this was born — along with modern beverage, ice and refrigeration equipment. We have been doing it in the same city since 1917. We have a fully equipped fabrication shop. TIG, argon, brake, shear, finishing and graining tools, layout space, ventilation. You would not be making the same part twice. One week it's a stainless counter and drainboard to a customer's drawings. The next it's fabricating a replacement panel for a 1940s fountain body where the only drawing is the broken piece in your hand. If you are the kind of fabricator who is bored on a production line and likes being handed a problem instead of a print, this is that job. What you'd do: In the shop — most of your week

• Lay out, cut, form, TIG-weld and finish stainless (304/316) to food-equipment standard — counters, sinks, tops, drainboards, custom systems
• Blend and grain welds to a #4 finish so the work looks factory-made
• Fabricate replacement parts and panels for vintage equipment, matching what's already there
• Repair, refurbish and rebuild equipment and parts on the bench
• Prep and stage equipment for jobs going out In the field — some of your week
• Go out on service calls, installations and repairs on beverage, ice and refrigerated equipment
• Do the on-site metalwork that installations need
• Complete your work ticket on location, turn it in, and note any follow-up
• Maintain your service vehicle and keep it stocked Everyone here does some of this:
• Parts and supplies inventory, warranty returns
• Shipping and receiving — packing parts and equipment orders, loading trucks
• Keeping the shop, stockroom and bench areas clean and working Required Real stainless sheet fabrication experience — you can take a job from layout through forming, welding and finish
• TIG (GTAW)
• , and the judgment to keep thin-gauge stainless from warping
• Able to work from a drawing, from a damaged part, or from a conversation
• Able to run your own sequencing and finish a job without being walked through it
• Power tool experience; able to read plans and diagrams
• Valid Illinois driver's license and clear driving record
• Clean and neat; appropriate uniform and safety wear
• Willing to write down or photograph what you did on a job, so the next person can follow it — that part isn't optional here Preferred, not required: EPA 608 refrigeration certification Who this is for: A responsible tradesperson who wants a long-term position in a small shop where the work is varied and the finished piece has your hands on it.
