Job Description

Position Description Material Assistant Summary of Position:

Assists Welders by providing all materials needed to fabricate a Pressure Vessel and/or Component. Responsible for various tasks to get pressure vessels ready for hydrostatic tests. Also, tasked with assisting in preparing pressure vessels for shipment after hydrostatic tests. This position reports directly to the Lead Welder.

Primary Accountabilities:

1. Gathers and prepares components required by the Welders. This includes the ability to use the following pieces of equipment, band saw, CNC pipe cutting machine, waterjet, pipe threading machine, oxygen-propylene and oxygen-acetylene hand held torches, wood table saw and various power hand tools. 2. Helps move vessels from their fabrication areas to the hydrostatic test area. 3. Moves materials as required by using a fork lift truck. 4. Sandblasts components as directed by the Lead Welder. 5. Cleans vessels prior to hydro by chipping, grinding and chiseling away burrs and weld spatter. 6. Prepares vessels for hydro testing. All nozzles are to be plugged, test connectors attached and vessels filled with water. 7. Dries vessels after hydro by draining water from vessel through nozzles and use of the rosebud torch to heat vessels to remove all remaining water. 8. Paints vessels, components and packages. 9. Attaches any items that are to be included with the vessel. 10. Communicates any unsafe department conditions to the Lead Welder. 11. Completes the Pressure Vessel Material Check form for each vessel, when applicable.

Secondary Accountabilities:

1. Keep work area and tools clean and neat. 2. Performs any other tasks as required by the Lead Welder.

Qualifications:

1. Ability to safely drive a fork lift truck. 2. Ability to safely operate an overhead crane. 3. Basic Math skills. 4. Communicate Orally and Verbally in English.

Training Requirements:

1. H. A. Phillips & Co. Safety Program. 2. H. A. Phillips & Co. Quality Management System. 3. Learn to safely operate a forklift. 4. Learn to safely operate and Overhead Crane. 5. Learn to operate a Band saw and other power equipment/ tools. 6. Learn to accurately read a Tape Measure and Micrometer. 7. Learn how to safely rig and handle raw materials. 8. Learn to read and interpret CAD drawings and Blueprints. 9. Learn how to identify components/ materials per CAD drawings and Blueprints. 10. Learn to use an Oxy/Acetylene Torch. 11. Learn how to use a Plasma Table. 12. Learn how to prepare a vessel for hydrostatic testing. 13. Learn how to safely sandblast components. 14.
