Standard Internship $ Paid Full Time Part Time Description Our organization provides construction and fabrication services with a strong focus on safety, quality, teamwork, and developing skilled professionals. Our work-based learning program gives students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a real-world fabrication environment while working alongside experienced team members. The Welder Intern will receive direct supervision, hands-on training, and mentorship from experienced welders, foremen, and shop leadership. Training will include safe work practices, proper use of welding and fabrication equipment, reading drawings and weld symbols, material preparation and fit-up, welding techniques, quality expectations, and general shop procedures. Our learning goals are for the intern to strengthen their welding and fabrication skills, develop safe and productive work habits, gain a better understanding of the fabrication process, and learn how to work effectively as part of a team. The overall goal is to provide meaningful industry experience that prepares the intern for a successful career in the welding and construction trades. Responsibilities The Welder Intern will participate in hands-on learning activities that provide exposure to welding and fabrication operations while working under the guidance of experienced team members. Tasks may include assisting with material preparation, fit-up, basic welding activities, interpreting drawings and weld symbols, equipment setup and maintenance, and performing quality checks on completed work. The intern will also have opportunities to observe and assist with different stages of the fabrication process, learn proper welding techniques, and participate in safety and quality discussions. Responsibilities will be structured around skill development and learning rather than functioning as a standard production employee. As the intern develops their skills, they may be given increasingly challenging tasks under appropriate supervision. Qualifications No prior professional welding or management experience is required. The ideal candidate will be a student currently enrolled in a welding, fabrication, or related technical program with an interest in pursuing a career in the skilled trades. The intern should have a willingness to learn, a strong focus on safety, good communication and teamwork skills, and the ability to follow instructions. Basic exposure to welding processes, tools, blueprint reading, or fabrication through coursework or technical training is preferred but not required. Learning Objectives By the end of the internship, the Welder Intern will: Develop and improve basic welding and fabrication skills through hands-on experience. Demonstrate an understanding of safe work practices, PPE, and proper use of welding equipment and tools. Gain experience reading and interpreting basic drawings, weld symbols, and measurements. Learn proper material preparation, fit-up, welding, and finishing techniques. Understand basic welding quality standards and how completed work is inspected. Develop troubleshooting and problem-solving skills related to welding and fabrication. Build communication, teamwork, reliability, and other professional skills needed in a fabrication environment.
