Job Description

GMAW/SMAW
Fabrication Welder, Railcar & Locomotive Join a team that builds and maintains the backbone of rail transportation. Progress Rail, a Caterpillar company, in partnership with Impact Workforce Solutions, is adding a Welder in Muncie, Indiana to support high-quality manufacturing.
Role Snapshot Primary processes:
MIG (majority) and Stick; additional exposure to TIG and Flux Core Work includes hand-welding, flame-cutting, fit-up, and fabrication to spec Blueprint reading and measurement-driven quality control
Schedule & Pay Pay:
$22+ per hour based on experience and shift
Shifts:
1st: Mon-Fri, 6:00am-2:30pm 2nd: Mon-Fri, 2:30pm-11:00pm 3rd: Sun-Thurs, 9:30pm-6:00am 40-56 hours/week; 5-6 days/week; overtime may be required Full-time employment with weekly pay Benefits & Culture 5 Days of PTO and 6 Paid Holidays Up to 50% of health insurance premiums paid by Impact Access to a retirement plan, financial fitness, and employee savings programs Safety-first culture with mentorship and growth opportunities Core Duties Achieve/maintain internal welding certifications aligned with ISO, AAR, and other governing standards Assemble, cut (powered saws), and prep parts (grinders/hand tools) to exact measurements Interpret blueprints, assembly instructions, drawings, and bills of material Comply with Progress Rail QSP 4.9 and relevant local/international standards Use tape measures, scales, and calipers to record inspection data Operate pneumatic/electric tools and overhead cranes for material handling Advanced Track Master pipe welding; perform
GMAW/SMAW
in all positions Earn AWS D1.1 and other recognized certifications Execute single- and multi-pass welds Perform preventative/basic maintenance on welding equipment Coach and mentor junior welders Forklift certification preferred Training available on advanced machinery, including Robot Welders Qualifications Technical certifications may substitute for experience Preferred certifications:
GMAW, FCAW, SMAW
Certified Welder with process mix: ~90% MIG, 10% Stick, plus TIG/Flux Core familiarity Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills Physical & Safety Lift up to 50 lbs.; work in tight/confined spaces Climb, reach, kneel; maintain visual and auditory acuity with proper PPE Operate in varying temperatures and inclement weather Safety-sensitive role requiring strict adherence to all safety policies and procedures around heavy equipment and live tracks Equipment You'll Use MIG Welder TIG Welder Stick Welder Flux-Cored Arc Welder Proficiencies Vehicle & Fleet Welding welder locomotive Location Muncie, Indiana Ready to Apply?
