Towson Mechanical, Inc. (TMI) is a commercial mechanical/plumbing contractor specializing in school and institutional construction. We are seeking an experienced Pipefitter/Welder to join our field team. All of our current projects are certified scale (prevailing wage) jobs. About the Role This is a hands-on field position for a skilled tradesman who can fabricate, fit, and weld pipe in commercial boiler rooms and mechanical rooms. The right candidate is comfortable working from mechanical drawings and schematics, laying out and installing piping systems, and producing quality welds that pass inspection. Familiarity with boiler rooms and mechanical rooms is required. You must be able to walk into a mechanical space, understand the equipment and systems in front of you, and know how everything ties together. Systems We Work With Pumps (base-mounted, inline, circulators) Boilers and boiler room piping Hydronic heating systems Chilled water systems Geothermal systems Domestic water systems Natural gas piping systems Responsibilities Fit, fabricate, and install steel, copper, and other piping per plans and specs Weld pipe (stick/MIG/TIG as required) to commercial quality standards Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, mechanical drawings, and submittals Lay out piping runs, equipment connections, and hanger/support locations Install and pipe boilers, pumps, heat exchangers, and related mechanical equipment Perform pressure testing and assist with system startup Coordinate with other trades in occupied and active construction sites Maintain a clean, safe work area and follow all jobsite safety requirements Requirements Proven experience as a pipefitter/welder in commercial mechanical construction Must be familiar with boiler rooms and mechanical rooms — equipment, piping arrangements, and how these systems operate Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and mechanical drawings Ability to produce clean, sound welds on pipe (weld test may be required) Own basic hand tools of the trade Reliable transportation to jobsites Ability to pass a background check (school construction sites) Preferred Welding certifications (ASME Section IX or equivalent) Jourenyman Plumbing License Med gas, brazing, or backflow certifications a plus Experience on public/prevailing wage projects Compensation & Benefits Certified scale (prevailing wage) rates on all current projects Full-time, year-round work Health insurance, 401(k) Matching, PTO How to Apply Apply through Indeed with your resume, or you can go on to our website and apply there (preferred).
