Responsible for fabrication and welding to support the build of complex machinery and automation systems by working with the Project Manager and other team members to ensure jobs are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Machining / fabrication of machine details (steel, aluminum, stainless), tubing, and sheet metal as needed utilizing manual mills, lathes, band saws and other machine shop tools as required. Welding (MIG / TIG) of frames, weldments, end of arm tools and other machine details to print tolerances and dimensions. Grind, dress, and finish weld surfaces to meet visual, dimensional, or coating-preparation requirements. Review engineering designs, prints, tolerances, and specifications to build and assemble equipment accurately. Accurately record hours on each job in Epicor and communicate with Project Manager to ensure expected total hours are within budget. Maintain a safe and organized work environment, ensuring compliance with Alto policies and standards, maintaining shop equipment to ensure quality and functionality, and maintaining orderly and adequate stock of commonly used inventory as needed to keep the shop running efficiently. Assist with training Shop Assistants and Apprentices in fabrication and welding skills. Participate in continuous improvement and best practices training to improve shop processes and reduce costs.
Qualifications:
3-5 years of related trade experience. Ability to read and interpret engineering designs and prints for equipment, including a working knowledge of Solid Works for reviewing models. Ability to fabricate and machine details for equipment utilizing appropriate materials and machine tools, as well as welding equipment and other hand tools as required. Ability to communicate well with others both verbally and in writing (including team members, customers, and suppliers). Ability to utilize computer software including Epicor ERP, Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams to communicate effectively and report on jobs. Efficient time management - must be self-driven.
