Job Title:

TIG Welder Job Description This role focuses on precision TIG welding in a high-end sheet metal fabrication environment that also performs machining and welding. You will set up and operate welding equipment to join fabricated metal parts according to detailed mechanical drawings, working primarily with stainless steel, aluminum, and mild steel. The position emphasizes quality, accuracy, and the ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative shop environment. Responsibilities Set up and operate welding machines to join fabricated metal parts as specified by mechanical and shop drawings. Plan, lay out, and perform work assignments independently, following instructions on shop drawings and work orders. Use correct templates, fixtures, and tools to accurately position and fit parts within average tolerance requirements. Perform TIG welding on stainless steel, aluminum, and mild steel, with approximately 70% of work focused on TIG welding. Perform MIG welding as needed on various metals, with approximately 30% of work focused on MIG welding. Read and interpret blueprints and understand weld callouts to ensure weld size, location, and type meet specifications. Inspect welds visually for quality, accuracy, and conformance to drawings and standards. Work with light-gauge materials (approximately .040 to .125 inch thick) and adjust techniques to prevent warping or burn-through. Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow shop safety procedures and best practices. Work independently for the majority of tasks while collaborating with team members and other departments when needed. Prepare and present weld samples as required to pass weld tests and maintain qualification standards. Essential Skills At least 1+ years of TIG welding experience on aluminum or stainless steel, or completion of a relevant technical welding program. Proficiency in TIG welding light-gauge aluminum, steel, and stainless steel in the .040 to .125 inch thickness range. Basic blueprint reading skills, including the ability to interpret weld symbols and weld callouts. Ability to perform consistent, high-quality TIG welds on precision sheet metal components. Capability to pass a weld test to demonstrate TIG welding skills and adherence to quality standards. Ownership and use of personal welding gear appropriate for TIG welding work. Strong attention to detail and ability to hold tolerances as specified in mechanical drawings. Ability to work independently, manage assigned tasks, and complete work with minimal supervision. Willingness and desire to improve welding skills and learn advanced TIG techniques. Additional Skills & Qualifications MIG welding experience is a plus but not required. Experience welding stainless steel, aluminum, and mild steel in a fabrication or manufacturing environment. Experience or training in metal fabrication or precision sheet metal work. Comfort working with templates, fixtures, and jigs to achieve repeatable, accurate weldments. Interest in ongoing training and development to become a highly skilled TIG welder. The shop operates on a first-shift schedule from Monday through Thursday, 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with overtime available on Fridays. The facility includes multiple departments, such as Welding, Fabrication, Finishing/Grinding, Quality Inspection, and Shipping, providing exposure to a full production workflow. You will work independently most of the time, while also collaborating with team members when projects require coordinated efforts. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
