Welder Job Description This role focuses on MIG welding and fabrication of steel mining buckets in a high-production environment. You work with heavy-gauge steel, interpret blueprints and schematics, and perform all required fabrication and finishing tasks to meet quality and safety standards. The position involves frequent lifting and the use of large hoists to move products around an open work yard, with welding performed primarily outdoors. Responsibilities Perform MIG welding on steel mining buckets using appropriate techniques and equipment. Work with 4- to 6-inch steel, ensuring strong, high-quality welds that meet production and safety standards. Fabricate all parts according to blueprints and work orders, following specifications accurately. Read and interpret blueprints and schematics on a daily basis to plan and execute welding and fabrication tasks. Grind and finish all welds to required quality standards, ensuring clean and structurally sound joints. Use large hoists and related equipment to safely move heavy products around the work yard. Lift and handle materials weighing up to 50 pounds throughout the workday while maintaining safe work practices. Work in an open welding environment, primarily outdoors, and adapt to varying weather conditions. Follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment at all times. Maintain a clean and organized work area and support efficient production flow. Essential Skills At least 1 year of MIG welding experience, including work with blueprints or schematics. Proficiency in MIG welding techniques on heavy-gauge steel components. Strong blueprint reading skills, including the ability to interpret schematics and work orders accurately. Experience with fabrication processes, including cutting, fitting, and assembling steel parts. Ability to grind and finish welds to meet quality and structural requirements. Capability to safely lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly during the workday. Comfort working in an open welding environment with indoor and outdoor conditions. Commitment to following safety protocols and using required protective equipment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in production welding or fabrication environments. Familiarity with using large hoists or similar material-handling equipment. Attention to detail and ability to work from detailed blueprints and schematics. Work Environment You work in an open welding and fabrication environment that includes both indoor and outdoor areas throughout the year. Welding is performed outdoors, and you regularly move large steel products around the yard using hoists. The role is physically active, with frequent lifting and handling of heavy materials. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Billings, MT. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
