  • Job Description
  • We are seeking a skilled Welder to join a busy fabrication shop team, focusing on welding, fabricating, assembling, and modifying custom metal products and equipment used in commercial, industrial, and institutional heating and air conditioning applications.

In this hands-on role, you fabricate ductwork, air distribution accessories, and associated equipment, working from construction drawings and blueprints to produce high-quality finished products from raw materials.

  • Responsibilities
  • + Fabricate ductwork, air distribution accessories, and associated equipment for commercial, industrial, and institutional heating and air conditioning projects.

+ Locate, measure, and outline installation areas using construction drawings and blueprints.

+ Drill holes, attach brackets, hangers, and other holding devices to support equipment and ductwork.

+ Fabricate complex fittings and ductwork, ensuring accuracy and adherence to specifications.

+ Assist with moving, loading, unloading, and distributing materials and parts within the shop.

+ Set equipment such as coils, fans, and humidifiers according to project requirements.

+ Read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, and weld symbols to plan and execute work.

+ Create material takeoffs and cut lists from construction drawings to support fabrication activities.

+ Pull and organize raw materials from inventory in preparation for fabrication.

+ Measure, lay out, cut, fit, tack, and assemble metal components for custom products and equipment.

+ Perform MIG, TIG, and Stick (SMAW) welding on a variety of materials, including stainless steel and aluminum.

+ Weld to qualified procedures using GMAW (MIG) and GTAW (TIG) processes.

+ Grind, finish, and clean welds to meet established quality and appearance standards.

+ Operate fabrication equipment such as press brakes, shears, plate rollers, band saws, sheet rollers, hem saws, plasma cutters, grinders, and other common shop tools.

+ Perform sheet metal fabrication and assembly, ensuring components meet precise measurements and tolerances.

+ Inspect completed welds and fabricated products for accuracy, structural integrity, and overall quality.

+ Follow detailed instructions and fabrication specifications to produce custom equipment and assemblies.

+ Apply strong shop safety practices, maintaining a clean and organized work area and using tools and equipment safely.

  • Essential Skills
  • + Minimum 2 years of MIG welding experience.

+ Minimum 2 years of TIG welding experience.

+ Minimum 2 years of metal fabrication experience.

+ Previous experience working in a sheet metal or fabrication shop.

+ Proficiency in MIG (GMAW) welding.

+ Proficiency in TIG (GTAW) welding.

+ Experience with Stick welding (SMAW).

+ Ability to perform weld preparation and finishing, including grinding and cleaning.

+ Experience welding stainless steel materials.

+ Experience welding aluminum materials.

+ Ability to read and interpret weld symbols accurately.

+ Capability to perform multi-position welding.

+ Strong skills in metal fabrication and sheet metal fabrication.

+ Ability to perform layout and fitting of metal components.

+ Proficiency in blueprint reading and understanding fabrication drawings.

+ Experience creating material takeoffs and cut lists from construction drawings.

+ Accurate measuring and precision fabrication skills with tight tolerances.

+ Experience fabricating custom equipment and products to specification.

+ Ability to assemble and assist with installation of fabricated components.

+ Experience operating press brakes, shears, and rollers.

+ Experience using grinding and finishing tools and band saws.

+ Knowledge of weld symbols and fabrication terminology.

+ Experience using common fabrication and welding tools in a shop environment.

+ Strong understanding of shop safety practices and safe tool operation.

+ Ability to produce consistent, quality welds with minimal supervision.

+ Ability to follow detailed instructions and fabrication specifications carefully.

  • Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • + Experience with flux core welding processes.

+ Experience with sheet metal fabrication in HVAC-related applications.

+ Familiarity with operating additional equipment such as sheet rollers, hem saws, plasma cutters, and grinders.

+ Ability to organize raw materials and maintain inventory for fabrication projects.

+ Attention to detail in inspecting completed welds and fabricated products for accuracy and quality.

+ Strong problem-solving skills when working on unique, custom-fabricated projects.

+ Comfort working from construction drawings, weld symbols, and fabrication terminology in a production environment.

  • This role is based in a fabrication shop environment where you work directly with metal materials, sheet metal components, and a wide range of welding and fabrication equipment.

You regularly operate tools such as press brakes, shears, plate rollers, band saws, sheet rollers, hem saws, plasma cutters, grinders, and other common shop machinery. The setting is hands-on and production-focused, requiring adherence to strict safety practices and consistent use of personal protective equipment appropriate for welding and metal fabrication work.

  • This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Greensboro, NC.
  • Pay and Benefits
  • The pay range for this position is $22.

00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your jobclassification and length of employment.
