Job Description
Academy Bus is seeking an Auto Body Repair Technician that specializes in Welding for our Secaucus, NJ location. Pay is starting at $30.00 - $40.00 per hour 1st and 2nd shift available. As a Welder at Academy Bus, you will play a vital role in maintaining and enhancing our fleet of vehicles. Your expertise in welding will ensure that our equipment remains safe, reliable, and ready for service. This position is essential to our mission of providing top-quality transportation solutions. Responsibilities Perform welding tasks on various vehicle components using techniques such as Flux-cored (FCAW), Stick (SMAW) TIG (FTAW), MIG (GMAW), and Oxy-acetylene welding. Read and interpret blueprints and schematics to execute precise welding projects. Utilize hand tools and machinery effectively to complete welding assignments. Conduct routine inspections of welded components to ensure quality standards are met. Maintain a clean and organized work area while adhering to safety protocols. Core Technical Skills Proficiency in Welding Processes MIG (GMAW) TIG (GTAW Stick (SMAW) Flux-cored (FCAW) Oxy-acetylene welding Measurement & Math Skills Accurately measuring, cutting, and aligning materials Weld Inspection & Quality Control Understanding of quality standards and visual or mechanical weld inspection (including knowledge of AWS or ISO standards). Material Knowledge Familiarity with different metals (carbon steel, stainless, aluminum, etc.) and how they behave when welded. Other Desired Skills Fabrication skills (cutting, bending, grinding) Basic machining or metal finishing experience Knowledge of welding codes and procedures for your industry (e.g., oil & gas, aerospace, shipbuilding) Understanding of welding machines and repair of welding machines Safety Practices Strong understanding and practice of welding safety procedures, including PPE use and handling hazardous materials Ability to disconnect electronics on vehicles Physical Abilities Good hand-eye coordination Manual dexterity and steady hands Physical strength and stamina Ability to work in various positions (overhead, confined spaces, etc.) Soft Skills Attention to detail Reliability and punctuality Ability to work independently and as part of a team Strong communication (especially in team or safety-critical environments) Willingness to learn new techniques or technologies Required Tools All welding material is supplied by the company Must have own toolbox Must have own hand tools including: Grinders, Wrenches, Sockets up to ½ drive Other Requirements At least five years of experience welding Must have the ability to repair/patch rust Degree in Auto Body is a plus but not required
