DESCRIPTION

The Welder/Fabricator position performs welding and fabrication of heavy equipment parts to complete assemblies or subassemblies of heavy equipment. Will work with a high attention to safety processes and procedures, read and follow all blue prints, production procedures, and work orders to meet production standards and quality expectations. Will coordinate work tasks with other departments, such as Engineering, and/or work units to improve work standards, quality and efficiency. This position follows all safe work operation procedures and processes and utilizes all PPE as required. Astec is dedicated to a culture of Behavior Based SAFETY and a Healthy Environment!

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

WELDER/FABRICATOR

Read, accurately follow, and translate all blueprints and production drawings. Weld steel components with welding equipment as specified by layouts, engineering drawings, work orders, or verbal instructions. Perform welding & fabrication of heavy equipment parts and assemblies to meet established quality standards, production procedures and efficiency expectations. Work includes set-up, laying out work using jigs/fixtures or hand layouts to fabricate parts and/or rework finished products. Inspect and correct welds as necessary to meet product specifications. Flexible may work in different work cells to maximize production as needed. Reliable and dependable to ensure smooth production operations. Work as part of a team coordinating work and assisting in the fabrication or welding of multi-component parts. Willingness to cross-train and perform the work of other job tasks in addition to the primary assigned position. Inspect equipment to maintain functional equipment if any equipment needs repairs notify supervisor/lead or maintenance department. Operate forklifts, hoists, hand power tools, slings, grinders, cutting torch, and other hand tools related to the jobs needs. Other duties, responsibilities, and qualifications may be required and/or assigned as necessary by Department or Shift Lead

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience/Knowledge Minimum of 3-5 years welding &/or fabrication experience with similar parts, processes, and welding equipment and procedures. Overhead and Jib crane experience required. Fork lift experience preferred. Ability to apply concepts such as basic math skills, fractions, micrometers, percentages, ratios, proportions to practical situations, and able to convert decimals into inches. Must be able to read and interpret a tape measure, blueprints, and bills of material (BOM's).
