Welder and Fabricator 2nd shift available! 22-26/hr Job Description This role focuses on custom welding and fabrication work in a production shop that builds flatbed trailers from detailed blueprints. You will perform primarily MIG and flux core welding on high-strength structural steel, with occasional stainless and aluminum TIG work, while fabricating parts from raw material to finished assemblies. The position requires a strong fabrication background, the ability to work from prints with minimal supervision, and confidence welding in out-of-position and tight spaces. Responsibilities Interpret and fabricate projects directly from blueprints, ensuring accuracy in dimensions and layout. Fabricate parts and assemblies from raw high-strength steel and other materials, using tape measures and other measuring tools to verify dimensions. Perform MIG and flux core welding on structural steel components, with approximately 90% of work involving MIG welding. Perform out-of-position welding and welding in tight or confined spaces while maintaining quality and safety. Execute some TIG welding on aluminum and stainless steel as needed, depending on project requirements. Use plasma cutters, laser cutters, and other fabrication equipment to cut and prepare materials. Operate material handling equipment and overhead cranes to safely move steel and completed assemblies around the shop. Apply proper pre-heating procedures and processes to materials when required, following established welding practices. Demonstrate an understanding of metallurgy and how it affects weld quality and structural integrity. Exhibit proficiency with vertical welding and continuously improve welding accuracy and productivity with minimal errors. Work independently on assigned projects, managing time and tasks to meet production schedules. Perform other business-related duties and shop tasks as required and assigned to support overall production. Adhere to all shop policies, including safety rules and the no-cellphone-on-the-floor policy, and sign required acknowledgments during orientation. Essential Skills At least 3 years of MIG and flux core welding experience, preferably in a structural or heavy fabrication environment. Strong fabrication experience, including the ability to independently fabricate parts and assemblies from raw material. Ability to read and interpret blueprints accurately and work directly from prints without constant supervision. Proficiency in reading and using a tape measure and other measuring tools to verify dimensions and tolerances. Demonstrated skill in MIG welding on high-strength structural steel, including vertical and out-of-position welds. Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with a variety of shop tools and equipment. Ability to work as a Class A or Class B level welder/fabricator based on demonstrated skills and experience. Understanding and proper utilization of pre-heating procedures and processes in welding operations. Basic understanding of metallurgy as it relates to welding, material properties, and weld quality. Ability to work independently and maintain productivity while producing high-quality welds with minimal errors. Additional Skills & Qualifications Trade school degree, vocational-technical diploma, or formal welding education is a strong plus. Experience working with heavy steel and high-strength structural materials. TIG welding experience on aluminum and stainless steel is a significant advantage but not required. Experience using plasma cutters, laser cutters, and other cutting and fabrication equipment. Familiarity with structural steel fabrication and assembly processes. AWS certification or similar welding certifications are beneficial. Why Work Here? You will join a custom fabrication shop that values skill development, career progression, and long-term growth. The organization offers medical, dental, and vision benefits with a low deductible and provides a structured pay level system with defined ranges for each level, creating clear paths for advancement and raises over time. Different skill categories recognize your expertise and give you opportunities to move into higher levels as you grow. You also benefit from a stable schedule with the option for overtime, and a workplace that emphasizes safety, professionalism, and respect for craftsmanship.
