Job Description

Johnson College is currently seeking part-time Welding instructors at our main campus in Scranton. This position will include organizing and delivering class syllabi and objectives in a clear, concise manner; maintaining an organized and safe lab; ensuring training aids, tools, and equipment are maintained and prepared for use in the classroom and labs; keeping accurate records of student performance and making the timely submission of academic records; providing students with timely feedback. The ideal candidate should have the ability to speak confidently in front of a small crowd, a passion for recruiting into the skilled trades, and flexible work hours, including afternoon and evening classes. All teaching positions require a minimum of 4-5 years of technical experience and/or an Associate's degree, preferred. Prior teaching experience is preferred but not required for most positions. A strong background in Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) with a thorough understanding of GTAW principles and practices, along with hands-on experience in various welding applications. The successful candidate will be proficient in machine set-up, including proper gas configuration, and capable of welding in all positions with E6010. Expertise in welding non-ferrous metals, such as stainless steel and aluminum, is essential. Applicants should also be comfortable working with a range of plate thicknesses- from 3/8" down to 18 gauge- and able to demonstrate open root welding techniques on plate. Must be able to pass a D1.1 Carbon steel plate test in 3 G position with E7018 Additional competencies include proficiency in cutting with both an oxygen/acetylene torch and a handheld plasma cutting machine. Strong practical skills will be complemented by the ability to work efficiently and safely in a shop environment. Knowledge of AWS basic welding symbol interpretation. Punctuality is essential; instructors must arrive 15 minutes prior to and remain 15 minutes after class time. Candidates should be prepared to stand for extended periods, possess basic computer skills, and be receptive to guidance and direction from the Program Director.
