We are looking for a skilled professional who can do more than weld—you must be able to teach, demonstrate, explain, and develop the skills of others. MetalMakers serves two very different types of students: beginners participating in fun, hands-on welding experiences and students pursuing professional welding skills and workforce development. What You'll Teach Our instructors must be capable of teaching and demonstrating: SMAW / Stick, GMAW / MIG, GTAW / TIG, and FCAW / Flux-Core Flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead welding positions Carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum Welding terminology, equipment, gases, torches, grinders, drills, and fabrication tools Layout, fit-up, joint preparation, fabrication, welding, and inspection Shop, fabrication, structural, and engineered drawings Blueprint reading and welding symbols, including fillet/groove welds, weld size, length, pitch, contour, field welds, all-around symbols, dimensions, elevations, sections, and material callouts Professional welding/fabrication practices used in structural steel, commercial fabrication, industrial maintenance, equipment repair, and field welding Instructors must be able to take information from a drawing and show students how it translates into layout, fit-up, welding, fabrication, and final inspection. Safety Is Part of Every Class Instructors are expected to teach, demonstrate, and enforce proper PPE and welding/shop safety at all times, including welding helmets and lens selection, eye and face protection, gloves and protective clothing, ventilation and fume awareness, hot-work/fire safety, compressed-gas cylinders, electrical safety, grinders, power tools, cutting equipment, material handling, and good housekeeping.
Two Types of Students Fun-Based Welding Classes:
Beginner students ages 6 and up complete pre-designed MIG welding project kits. The instructor creates a safe, encouraging experience while teaching basic welding, equipment operation, blueprint/instruction reading, and safety.
Welding Workforce Development:
Students range from complete beginners to working welders seeking advanced skills. Instruction may progress from welding fundamentals to professional-level structural, fabrication, industrial repair, and field-welding skills. What We're Looking For The ideal instructor has years of hands-on welding and fabrication experience in multiple industries , strong blueprint and welding-symbol knowledge, excellent communication skills, patience, professionalism, and the ability to adjust their teaching style to different ages and skill levels. You must be comfortable working with students from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds and committed to creating a respectful, inclusive learning environment.
Required:
Extensive professional welding/fabrication experience Demonstrated competency in multiple welding processes and positions Strong blueprint and welding-symbol knowledge Ability to safely demonstrate welding, fabrication, and shop equipment CWI certification or applicable Tennessee teaching certification Ability to pass a criminal background check and employment/reference verification We are looking for experienced welders who want to pass their knowledge, skills, and craftsmanship on to the next generation.
Pay:
$25.00 - $35.00 per hour Expected hours: 15.0 - 30.0 per week
