Job Description

Job Summary The Shop Combination Welder fabricates, joins, and repairs metal materials using multiple welding processes (MIG, TIG, and Stick) inside a manufacturing facility. This role requires a highly skilled technician who can easily switch between techniques based on blueprint specifications, project requirements, and metal types while maintaining tight quality controls.
Key Responsibilities Execute Multiple Processes:
Perform highquality MIG, TIG, and Stick welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
Interpret Drawings:
Read and interpret complex blueprints, structural drawings, and AWS welding symbols to accurately layout and fit parts.
Equipment Setup:
Adjust welding machine settings (amperage, voltage, gas flow, and shielding gas types) precisely for different materials and thicknesses.
Component Fabrication:
Cut, shape, and fit metal parts using plasma cutters, oxyfuel torches, saws, and grinders before welding.
Quality Assurance:
Inspect completed welds for defects like porosity, undercut, or cracking, and repair any issues to meet industry codes.
Shop Safety:
Maintain a clean workspace, inspect tools daily, and strictly follow OSHA regulations, including the proper use of PPE.
Requirements and Qualifications Experience:
Minimum of 25 years of proven experience as a combination welder in a shop or manufacturing environment.
Technical Skills:
High proficiency in setting up and troubleshooting MIG, TIG, and Stick machinery.
Certifications:
Current or previous AWS certifications (e.g., 3G, 4G, or 6G positions) are highly preferred.
Material Knowledge:
Strong understanding of metallurgy, including how different metals react to heat and stress.
Physical Demands:
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, and work in tight or awkward physical positions.
