This role is responsible for fitting, fabricating, assembling, and welding structural steel components used in marine and heavy industrial applications. The ideal candidate will be skilled in reading blueprints, performing precise fit-up work, and completing high-quality welds using multiple welding processes in a fast-paced production environment. Candidates should have previous experience as a Combo Welder/Fitter, strong blueprint-reading and fabrication skills, and the ability to safely work with structural steel, welding equipment, and material handling tools. Applicants must be able to pass a hands-on weld and fit test, work in various positions and environments, and demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, quality, and productivity. Pay Rate $23.00/hr. depending on experience Schedule and Hours Monday through Friday (some Saturdays) 6:00 am to 6:00 pm Combo Welder/Fitter Duties and Responsibilities Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to layout, fit, and assemble structural steel components. Measure, align, and position steel plates, frames, and fabricated parts using hand tools, hoists, cranes, and precision measuring instruments. Prepare materials by cutting, grinding, beveling, and removing imperfections prior to welding. Perform structural welding using SMAW (Stick), FCAW (Flux Core), and Aluminum welding processes. Weld in horizontal, vertical, overhead, and other challenging positions as required. Inspect completed work to ensure proper fit-up, weld quality, and structural integrity. Monitor heat distortion and make adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy. Repair, modify, and fabricate steel components as needed. Follow all safety procedures and participate in safety meetings and training activities. Maintain welding equipment and work areas in a clean and safe condition. Combo Welder/Fitter Qualifications and Requirements Minimum 2 years of experience as a Combo Welder/Fitter in a shipyard, marine, fabrication, heavy industrial, or structural steel environment. Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, fabrication drawings, and welding symbols. Strong fitting, layout, and structural assembly experience. Demonstrated proficiency with SMAW, FCAW, and Aluminum welding processes. Ability to use precision measuring tools and fabrication equipment. Experience operating cutting torches, grinders, and other metalworking tools. Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in varying weather conditions. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physically demanding work for extended periods. Strong commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship. Must successfully pass a hands-on weld and fit test, background screening, and drug screening prior to placement. Preferred Qualifications Previous marine, shipyard, barge, or boat repair experience. OSHA safety training or other industry-related certifications. Experience working with structural steel fabrication and repair projects.
