Direct Hire VIP Staffing is recruiting for an experienced Fitter / Welder Trainer for a manufacturing client in Haltom City, TX. This is a hands-on training and leadership position for an experienced fitter who knows the fabrication floor and can develop others. The Fitter Trainer will lead the company's fitter training program, assess new hires, train entry-level fitters, and help experienced C and B Fitters advance to the next classification. The ideal candidate is an A-Level Fitter or equivalent with tapered tubular pole fitting/fabrication experience who can take complex fit-up processes and teach them in a practical, easy-to-understand way. What You'll Do

  • Administer hands-on fitter assessments for potential new hires
  • Evaluate tape measure skills, shop math, blueprint reading, weld symbols, and practical fit-up ability
  • Lead a structured 30/60/90-day training program for new Fitter Trainees
  • Train employees on:
  • Blueprint and weld symbol interpretation
  • Seam location and numbering
  • Twist and camber acceptance
  • Shaft trimming and squaring
  • True centers and chalk lines
  • Base and flange plates
  • Brackets, through-plates, ground sleeves, and related layouts
  • Basic pole shaft fit-up
  • A-frame shafts, leveling plates, top connection plates, bridges, H-frames, and large bases
  • Conduct weekly hands-on evaluations and provide coaching and feedback
  • Cross-train welders and other production employees moving into fitter positions
  • Coach C and B Fitters preparing for advancement
  • Schedule and administer fitter classification tests
  • Work closely with Quality Control to verify that certification test pieces meet quality standards
  • Maintain accurate training records, evaluations, test scores, and employee sign-offs
  • Track certification rates, quality, retention, safety, and training progress
  • Identify employees who are struggling and develop improvement plans
  • Maintain hands-on fitting skills by assisting with production fit-up when the training schedule allows
  • Model and enforce company safety standards throughout training Required Experience
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum 5 years of fitting/fabrication experience
  • Tapered tubular pole experience required
  • A-Fitter classification or equivalent demonstrated experience
  • Strong blueprint and weld symbol reading skills
  • Ability to teach blueprint reading, layout, fitting, and fabrication techniques
  • Strong knowledge of fit-up tools, torches, grinders, and layout instruments
  • Understanding of fit-up requirements needed to produce UT-passable welds
  • Knowledge of overhead cranes, jib cranes, and basic rigging
  • Ability to objectively evaluate and document employee performance
  • Basic Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook skills
  • ERP experience; Global Shop experience is a plus
  • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred
  • Previous experience training, mentoring, or leading shop employees is preferred
  • Flexibility to provide training coverage across 1st and 2nd shifts as needed Candidates must be able to successfully complete required pre-employment screening, including background check, drug screen, physical, audiogram, and vision testing.
Compensation & Performance Bonuses Base Salary:

$90,000

  • 95,000 In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for performance-based training bonuses, including:
  • $750 per C-Level Fitter certification
  • $600 per cross-trained Welder certification
  • $400 per B-Level advancement
  • $500 per A-Level advancement

Candidates should be comfortable working in changing seasonal temperatures, standing for extended periods, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing stairs or ladders, and lifting up to 40 lbs. Some travel between facilities in Haltom City, Euless, and Kaufman may be required.
