Job Description
Position Overview:
Responsible for welding in a variety of applications including skid fabrication, pedestal and sub assembly fabrication, welding pedestals, brackets, and braces to skids.Responsibilities/Job Duties:
- Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures
- Weld components according to the company's welding procedure specifications (WPS)
- Operate angle grinders, plasma cutter, and/or torch to prepare the parts that must be welded
- Align structural beams with clamp pieces as necessary
- Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead)
- Support a philosophy of zero accidents by following all applicable safety procedures and maintaining equipment to operate in the safest way possible
- Adhere to company policy, procedures, and rules
- Adhere to safety requirements by wearing appropriate protective gear
- Maintain a positive, team-oriented attitude
- Flexibility to work hours necessary to meet plant requirements
- Need minimal instructions of pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job
- Perform various other duties and activities as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as welder
- Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures such as
GMAW/MIG
hard-wire, metal core and flux core- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings Ability to read and use a tape measure in US units (not metric) Ability to read and use a level Ability to use hand tools and power tools
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work in a fast-paced shop environment
- Pass pre-employment and periodic weld tests
- Competency test: Weld ½" plate in the horizontal position using the parameters set forth in MES' Structural Welding WPS.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, sit and/or walk on a hard surface as well as safely bend, stoop, reach, climb steps, and use ladder
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Vision required: 20/40 with or without corrective lenses to accurately read all related distribution documents
Working Conditions:
- Subject to outdoor and plant environment with adjusting temperatures and climate
