Duties Read and interpret mechanical blueprints, technical drawings, and fabrication shop drawings to ensure accurate production. Measure materials using calipers, micrometers, measuring instruments, and shop math to meet precise specifications. Perform welding using various techniques including MIG (Metal Inert Gas), TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas), FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding), SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), and gas metal arc welding, adhering to AWS (American Welding Society) standards. Fabricate metal components by cutting with plasma cutters, shears, or other power tools; shape sheet metal; and assemble parts using hand tools. Use construction site experience to assist in field fabrication or assembly as needed. Operate cranes and other lifting equipment safely during fabrication or installation processes. Maintain a clean and safe work environment by following safety protocols diligently at all times. Collaborate with team members on projects involving mechanical fabrication, metal materials, sheet metal fabrication, and assembly tasks. Conduct quality checks on completed work to ensure compliance with specifications and safety standards. Skills Extensive experience with construction sites and fabrication environments. Proficiency in reading blueprints, technical drawings, and interpreting mechanical blueprints. Strong knowledge of welding techniques including MIG, TIG, FCAW, SMAW, and gas metal arc welding. Skilled in using measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, tape measures, and shop math for precise fabrication. Familiarity with power tools like grinders, drills, plasma cutters, shears, and hand tools for cutting, shaping, and assembling metals. Mechanical knowledge related to fabrication shop processes and construction site requirements. Ability to operate cranes safely during heavy lifting or positioning of large components. Experience working with sheet metal materials for various applications including structural components. Understanding of safety protocols related to welding operations and construction environments. Capable of interpreting technical drawings accurately for complex fabrication tasks. Knowledge of AWS standards for welding quality assurance and certification requirements. Basic math skills necessary for measurements and calculations involved in fabrication work. Experience with machining or plasma cutting equipment is a plus but not mandatory.
