The Welder is responsible for performing high‑quality welds on steel components in a safe, accurate, and timely manner. This role focuses on welding operations, joint preparation, and producing finished welded assemblies according to specifications. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Weld Joint Preparation — Prepare materials by cutting, grinding, beveling, and cleaning weld joints to ensure proper fit‑up and weld quality. Welding Operations — Perform high‑quality welds on mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum using approved welding processes. Blueprint Interpretation — Read and understand shop drawings, weld symbols, and specifications. Measurement Skills — Use precision measuring tools such as tape measures, micrometers, and protractors; perform basic math including fractions and decimals. Final Weld Assembly — Complete final welded assemblies to meet quality and dimensional requirements. Material Handling — Identify, label, and move finished welded products to designated locations; forklift operation required. Safety Compliance — Ensure all welding equipment is properly set up, maintained, and operated with required safety devices in place. Inspection Duties — Perform first‑piece and in‑process inspections to verify weld quality and conformance. Equipment Monitoring — Monitor welding machines and tools; request maintenance when needed and perform simple repairs as required. Other Duties and Responsibilities Cross‑Training — May be required to cross‑train as backup in other production areas. Timekeeping — Maintain accurate entries in the time and attendance system. Additional Duties — Perform other job‑related tasks as assigned by Taylor Iron. Work Relationships and Scope Reports directly to the Shift Supervisor . Ability to lift and push up to 70 pounds . Working Conditions Work performed in a production environment with potential risk of injury. Required use of PPE when operating welding and shop equipment.
