We are seeking an experienced Welder/Fabricator Lead to oversee and perform welding and metal fabrication work in a fast-paced precast concrete manufacturing environment. This position is ideal for an experienced welder/fabricator who is comfortable taking the lead, directing other employees, reading fabrication drawings, troubleshooting problems, and ensuring work is completed safely, accurately, and on schedule. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on welding and fabrication experience, leadership abilities, and experience working with structural steel, rebar, plates, frames, forms, or other fabricated components used in industrial or concrete manufacturing.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Lead and assist a team of welders, fabricators, and production employees. Assign daily work and help ensure production priorities and deadlines are met. Perform MIG, stick, and/or flux-core welding as required. Fabricate, assemble, repair, and modify steel components and structures. Cut, fit, tack, weld, grind, and finish metal components according to specifications. Fabricate and repair steel forms, frames, brackets, plates, supports, reinforcing components, and other production equipment. Read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, shop drawings, measurements, and welding symbols. Measure and lay out materials accurately before cutting and fabrication. Operate grinders, saws, torches, plasma cutters, drills, and other fabrication equipment. Inspect welds and fabricated components for proper dimensions, alignment, penetration, appearance, and overall quality. Identify fabrication problems and make adjustments or repairs when necessary. Ensure completed work meets drawings, specifications, and company quality standards. Assist with welding and fabrication of components used in precast concrete production. Coordinate materials and supplies needed to complete fabrication projects. Monitor workflow and communicate production issues to supervisors or management. Train and provide guidance to less-experienced welders and fabricators. Help ensure employees follow proper welding procedures and safe work practices. Maintain welding machines, fabrication tools, and work areas in safe operating condition. Follow all OSHA, PPE, lockout/tagout, hot-work, and company safety requirements. Maintain a clean and organized fabrication area. Perform additional welding, maintenance, fabrication, and production duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Previous professional welding and metal fabrication experience . Previous lead, foreman, or supervisory experience is strongly preferred. Strong MIG welding skills; stick and flux-core experience is highly desirable. Experience fabricating structural or industrial steel components. Ability to read and understand blueprints, shop drawings, welding symbols, and measurements . Strong knowledge of cutting, fitting, tack welding, grinding, and final fabrication. Ability to use tape measures, squares, levels, calipers, and other measuring tools accurately. Experience with torches, plasma cutters, grinders, saws, drills, and common fabrication equipment. Ability to troubleshoot fabrication and welding problems. Strong attention to weld quality and dimensional accuracy. Ability to lead employees while remaining hands-on with production. Strong communication and organizational skills. Dependable attendance and ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Ability to follow and enforce workplace safety procedures.
Preferred Experience:
Candidates with previous experience in precast concrete, structural steel, rebar fabrication, construction, heavy manufacturing, industrial welding, steel forms, equipment fabrication, or production welding are strongly encouraged to apply.
Physical Requirements:
This is a hands-on industrial position. Candidates must be comfortable standing for extended periods, bending, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, and working around heavy equipment and manufacturing operations. Must be able to safely lift approximately 50 lbs. or more with assistance when necessary and work in environments that may include heat, cold, noise, dust, sparks, and welding fumes.
Pay:
$28.00 - $32.00 per hour Expected hours: No less than 40.0 per week
