Job Title:
Welder - 2nd Shift Job Description This 2nd shift Welder role focuses on .045 MIG production welding on mild steel in the flat position within a clean, organized, and well-equipped fabrication shop. You will primarily perform MIG welding using Lincoln welders, work from blueprints, and support minor fabrication tasks while contributing to a collaborative and safety-focused team environment. Responsibilities Perform .045 MIG production welding on mild steel in the flat position according to established specifications and quality standards. Interpret and work from blueprints to produce accurate welds and assemblies. Set up, operate, and adjust Lincoln welders and related welding equipment for production work. Use hand and power tools, including hammers and other basic tools, to support welding and fabrication tasks. Perform fixture welding by setting up and securing workpieces in appropriate jigs and fixtures. Support minor non-welding duties such as grinding, blasting, and operating a band saw to prepare and finish parts. Assist occasionally with TIG welding projects as needed, ensuring proper technique and quality. Inspect welds and finished parts for quality, accuracy, and adherence to specifications, making adjustments as necessary. Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of steel-toe footwear, welding helmet, and welding gloves. Maintain a clean, organized work area and contribute to overall shop cleanliness and organization. Collaborate with other weld groups and team members across multiple bays to meet production goals. Communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers regarding job status, issues, and improvement opportunities. Essential Skills .045 MIG welding experience on mild steel in the flat position. Ability to read and interpret blueprints for welding and fabrication work. Experience using Lincoln welders or similar MIG welding equipment. Proficiency with basic hand and power tools related to welding and fabrication. Ability to perform fixture welding and properly secure workpieces. Basic experience with grinding, blasting, and band saw operation. Capability to assist with TIG welding when needed. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality welds. Ability to work 2nd shift hours from 2:45 pm to 11:45 pm. Consistent adherence to safety practices and use of required personal protective equipment, including steel-toe footwear, welding helmet, and welding gloves. Additional Skills & Qualifications Technical school education in welding or a related field is a plus. Prior experience in a production welding environment is beneficial. Comfort working in a structured shop setting with multiple weld groups and bays. Willingness to occasionally support TIG welding projects and expand welding skill sets. Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team-oriented environment. Why Work Here? Work Environment The shop is a very clean and organized facility with high ceilings and a structured layout that includes three different weld groups and twelve bays. You will primarily work on 2nd shift, from 2:45 pm to 11:45 pm, with a standard schedule focused on five hours of overtime availability each week, though additional overtime is not currently required. A small, set crew occasionally works on Saturdays for a few hours. The facility does not have air conditioning in the summer, and the doors remain open, so it can get hot during warmer months; to support employees, the company provides items such as Gatorade and ice cream. The shop has approximately 55-60 employees, creating a mid-sized, collaborative environment. You will use Lincoln welders and standard fabrication equipment, and the dress code requires appropriate personal protective equipment, including steel-toe footwear, a welding helmet, and welding gloves. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lake Mills, WI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $28.00/hr.
