We're looking for a motivated Structural Steel Fitter/Fabricator who enjoys hands-on work, values quality craftsmanship, and wants to be part of a growing team where their skills make an impact every day. What You'll Do Read and interpret fabrication drawings, blueprints, weld symbols, and work orders to ensure accurate fabrication and assembly. Lay out, fit, align, and assemble structural steel components including beams, columns, plates, stiffeners, clips, and connection assemblies. Verify measurements, joint preparation, and fit-up accuracy to meet project specifications and tolerances. Perform tack welding and support fabrication processes to prepare assemblies for final welding and inspection. Use fabrication tools and equipment including grinders, torches, magnetic drills, saws, and material handling equipment. Inspect completed work for dimensional accuracy, fit-up quality, and compliance with fabrication drawings. Partner with welders, supervisors, and quality teams to resolve fabrication challenges and maintain production schedules. Assist with material staging, assembly preparation, and final product readiness for coating, shipment, or field erection. Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-focused work environment. Contribute to the successful completion of projects ranging from commercial buildings to mission-critical facilities. What Makes You a Great Fit 2+ years of recent experience in structural steel fabrication, fitting, or heavy industrial manufacturing. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, and weld symbols. Experience fitting and assembling structural steel components using proper layout and measurement techniques. Strong understanding of structural steel connections, joint preparation, and fabrication processes. Comfortable working with hand tools, power tools, grinders, torches, magnetic drills, and related shop equipment. Ability to identify fit-up issues and proactively resolve problems before they impact production. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work. Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work effectively alongside welders, supervisors, and production personnel. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Richmond, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $32.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
