Job Description
Job Title:
Welder/Fabricator Job Description This role offers an opportunity for an experienced Welder with a strong fabrication background to take full ownership of the fitting and welding process from start to finish. You will work on structural and custom fabrication projects, using your blueprint reading, layout, and welding skills to produce high-quality assemblies with minimal supervision. This is a true fitting and welding position that requires a skilled trades professional who understands fabrication, layout, and inspection, rather than a simple weld machine operator role. Responsibilities Read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, and welding symbols to understand project requirements. Measure, mark, and lay out materials accurately according to specifications and tolerances. Fit, align, and square structural and fabricated components independently before welding. Tack weld assemblies securely using MIG welding processes to hold components in place for final welding. Perform high-quality MIG welds on structural steel, carbon steel, and other metals to meet project and code requirements. Use appropriate welding processes, including GMAW and FCAW, as required for different materials and joint configurations. Verify dimensions, tolerances, and alignment of assemblies before and after welding using measuring tools, squares, and levels. Operate fabrication equipment, welding fixtures, and a variety of hand and power tools safely and effectively. Grind, clean, and finish welds and materials as required to meet quality and appearance standards. Inspect welds and assemblies visually and dimensionally to ensure they meet specifications and quality standards. Prepare materials for welding, including cutting, beveling, cleaning, and positioning components. Set up and use welding fixtures and positioning equipment to support efficient and accurate fabrication. Work independently to plan, organize, and complete projects accurately and efficiently with minimal supervision. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area, following all safety procedures and best practices in the shop. Collaborate with other fabricators and welders as needed to complete larger or more complex assemblies. Essential Skills At least 5 years of MIG fitting and welding experience in a fabrication or structural steel environment. Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, and welding symbols. Proven experience fitting structural steel and fabricated components from layout through final weld. Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high quality standards. Proficiency in measuring and layout using tape measures, squares, levels, and other layout equipment. Ability to pass a weld test demonstrating MIG welding proficiency. Hands-on experience with MIG welding (GMAW) and flux core welding (FCAW). Capability to perform accurate layout, fit-up, and tack welding for complex assemblies. Skill in grinding and finishing welds to meet structural and cosmetic requirements. Experience working with carbon steel and structural steel materials in a shop fabrication environment.
