Weld assemblies prepared by the Assembly/Fit-Up Department as well as assemblies requiring fitting and positioning by the welder. Maintain proper welding technique, including arc length, travel speed, penetration, bead size, and weld appearance. Inspect completed welds and fabricated assemblies for proper bead size, penetration, appearance, dimensions, fit, alignment, and conformance to drawings and specifications. Identify and correct weld defects and other workmanship issues as appropriate. Clean and prepare weld joints and workpieces by removing oil, grease, oxidation, contaminants, slag, spatter, or other material as necessary. Prepare surfaces for welding through grinding, grooving, scarfing, beveling, or other required methods. Repair cracked, damaged, or improperly welded components when directed. Use filler rod and other welding consumables as required by the welding process. Preheat materials with a hand torch when required. Remove excess weld, slag, and spatter and perform grinding or finishing necessary to prepare assemblies for the next stage of production. Check completed assemblies for straightness and alignment and perform approved straightening techniques using heat, mechanical methods, or hand tools as necessary. Safely operate welding equipment, grinders, torches, hand tools, power tools, and other fabrication equipment required for the position. Maintain welding equipment, tools, and work areas in a clean, safe, and orderly condition. Follow all company safety procedures, work instructions, quality standards, and required use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
