Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
The Welder/Fabricator & CNC Plasma Operator is responsible for performing all aspects of metal fabrication and thermal cutting operations to support production requirements. This position sets up and fabricates weldments from engineering drawings and work instructions, including fitting, welding, grinding, and inspecting completed assemblies to ensure compliance with dimensional and quality specifications. The role also operates and monitors CNC plasma cutting equipment to process plate and sheet material for production, ensuring accurate part quality and efficient material utilization. The employee is responsible for maintaining a safe work environment, performing equipment inspections, and meeting established production, quality, and safety standards while supporting continuous improvement and cross-functional manufacturing operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform nesting, make program edits, and determine required materials for Plasma Cutting operations. Set-up, adjust, operate and maintain CNC cutting machine to cut single or multiple pieces from sheet and plate stock, using oxyfuel and plasma processes. Perform setup and welding operations on weldments involving a considerable number of parts and/or smaller more complicated weldments where alignment, dimension, etc., must meet strict quality requirements. Fit and position parts and sections, clamp or tack-weld, make necessary adjustments of components to meet requirements and specifications. Make frequent checks during welding process as to dimensions, irregularities, etc., and take corrective measures when variances occur. Make welding fixtures to facilitate repetitive production welding. Cut, grind, finish and weld components so they may be fitted properly to a unit. Use hand and power tools, such as grinders, drills, welders, torches, clamps, jigs and fixtures, etc. Maintain safe operating condition of equipment. Work from drawings, blueprints, job layouts, specifications, work orders and samples. Use rule, square, protractor, templates, gauges, etc. Ability to train new employees and cross-train regular employees. Maintain and ensure required quality by regular inspection. Keep work area, equipment and machines in a clean, safe and orderly fashion. Work safely at all times and comply with safety rules. Operate overhead cranes, forklift and other material handling equipment. Complete jobs within required production standard.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or equivalent Certificate or diploma in Welding is an advantage; MIG Welding 2 or more years of experience CNC Cutting (Laser, Plasma or OxyFuel) experience preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to read prints and understand GDT Symbols Ability to use layout and inspection tools
