Peer Specialist (YANA Drop In Center Program) Full-Time | Sarasota, FL About the

Role:

Reporting to the YANA Program Manager, the Peer Specialist-Driver provides non-clinical, evidence-based support at NAMI Sarasota & Manatee Counties' You Are Not Alone (YANA) drop-in center. This role focuses on peer support to promote recovery, wellness, and community connection.

About YANA:

YANA is a peer-operated, recovery-oriented drop-in center for adults (18+) with a mental health diagnosis. Open Monday-Friday, it offers free support groups, activities, and social opportunities in a safe, welcoming environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Safely transport YANA members to/from the center and outings in NAMI's passenger van. Provide one-on-one and group peer support, mentoring, and coaching. Share lived experience to inspire hope and model recovery. Encourage participation in recovery planning, goal setting, and community engagement. Support members in accessing resources, building relationships, and developing self-advocacy skills. Assist with support groups, outreach, and positive social activities. Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to ethical and professional standards.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma/GED. Lived experience as a current or former user of mental health or co-occurring services. Valid driver's license and safe driving record. Certified Recovery Peer Specialist (CRPS) or willingness to obtain within 1 year. Knowledge of recovery principles, local resources, and peer support practices. Reliable, empathetic, self-aware, and committed to NAMI's mission.
