Augusta, GA Job Details Full-time 16 hours ago Benefits Paid holidays Health insurance Dental insurance Paid time off Vision insurance Retirement plan Qualifications Editorial content writing Marketing design Crisis communication public relations campaigns Public Relations Committee work Fundraising appeals Social media event promotion Community partnership development strategy Bachelor's degree in communications News writing Crisis communication planning Public awareness campaigns Direct mail media campaign management Public communication during emergencies Media management experience within government Bachelor's degree in public relations CDL Crisis communication in disaster management Bachelor's degree Donor communication management Journalist relationship development Newsletters (communication methods) Communications Marketing operations Senior level Public relations marketing for event promotion Event promotion Managing communications teams Full Job Description This position is responsible for: Plans, develops, coordinates, maintains, improves and supervises the day-to-day Area Command communication operations with the purpose of improving both internal and public awareness and support for programs and services that advance the Army's mission; Provides the capacity to enhance evangelism, strengthen community relations, provide frequent, accurate and improved public information, forge stronger media relations and partnerships, and in general, raise the standards of communications across the Area Command; Designs, develops and presents promotional materials using multi-media formats; Serves as primary liaison with print and broadcast media with regard to the promotion of Salvation Army events, services, disaster relief, etc.; Develops and maintains an effective communication plan/strategy to manage the Army's image and address any adverse public relations events; Keeps internal and external audiences informed about Salvation Army activity during disaster and/or crises events; Oversees and coordinates all donor communications with Area Commander and Development Director, including donor newsletters, direct mail and direct marketing; Oversees (and supervises support staff when applicable) multi-media communications including all web-based and social media stream.
Key Responsibilities:
Plans, develops, coordinates, evaluates and improves communication functions for the Area Command with a goal of increasing public awareness of and support for, the mission of The Salvation Army. Develops, and manages an Annual Communications Improvement plan (working in concert with board CRD committee) outlining the strategies, objectives and measurable outcomes of the Area Command communication practices. Develops partnerships with Area Command department heads and program staff to identify mutually beneficial communications, goals, resources, and strategies to raise internal and/or public awareness and support for individual departmental interests, services and needs. Prepares and disseminates internal and external news and press releases in both written and electronic formats; shares news with the divisional staff as needed ensuring this is accomplished with the goal of integration of a common identity. Supports local Corps staff within the Area Command with their needs for media contact.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to service as spokesperson for The Salvation Army in print, on radio, and television and speak before large groups in person. Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with dust, dirt, and the like.

Education and Experience Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Public Relations, Communications or a related field is required; And Three (3) progressively responsible experience administering a variety of internal and external communications functions for a large organization; Or Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Certifications Valid State Driver's License CDL License a plus.
