About Us Middle Georgia State University (MGA), a multi-campus, baccalaureate and graduate degree-granting public institution, is the most affordable public state university in Georgia. Job Summary The Coordinator for Student Initiatives supports the implementation of Middle Georgia State University's community engagement and service strategy through the coordination of university-wide volunteer programs, community partnerships, and student service initiatives. Under the direction of the Assistant Director for Engagement & Service, this position coordinates volunteer programs and events, maintains community partner relationships, advises student volunteer leaders, supports special service initiatives, and administers systems for tracking and assessing student service participation. The position works collaboratively with students, university departments, and community organizations to expand meaningful service opportunities and support MGA's engagement with the communities it serves. Responsibilities Volunteer & Community Engagement Programs (35%)
- Coordinate the planning and implementation of the annual MGA Day of Service and other university-wide service initiatives under the direction of the Assistant Director for Engagement & Service.
Develop and coordinate recurring volunteer opportunities for students across MGA campuses. Coordinate university volunteer fairs and other events designed to connect students with community organizations and service opportunities. Coordinate campus blood drives in partnership with external organizations and appropriate university departments. Develop campus-specific service projects responsive to the needs and interests of students and local communities. Coordinate event logistics, including facilities, supplies, registration, volunteer assignments, and day-of-event operations. Maintain and promote a university-wide calendar of service opportunities and coordinate communication with student volunteers. Collaborate with Student Life staff and other university departments to incorporate service opportunities into existing programs and events. Coordinate purchasing and procurement needs for assigned service programs, including requisitions, purchase orders, vendor documentation, and related university processes. Community Partnerships and Outreach (20%)
- Develop and maintain relationships with nonprofit organizations, government agencies, schools, and other community partners throughout Middle Georgia.
Conduct outreach to identify new partnerships, emerging community needs, and opportunities for continued or expanded collaboration. Serve as a primary point of contact for community organizations seeking to engage MGA students in volunteer and service opportunities. Maintain an accurate database of community partners, organizational contacts, volunteer opportunities, and partnership history. Coordinate the collection and dissemination of volunteer opportunities to MGA students through appropriate university communication channels. Represent Student Life at community meetings, volunteer fairs, partnership meetings, and other engagement activities as assigned. Special Service Program Support (10%)
- Provide operational and logistical support for major service and community engagement initiatives coordinated by the Assistant Director for Engagement & Service.
Coordinate student recruitment, applications, registration, participant communication, documentation, waivers, and other program requirements. Support orientations, trainings, and other preparatory activities and coordinate necessary program materials, supplies, schedules, and participant information. Assist with post-program evaluation, participant feedback, and program documentation. Student Volunteer Leadership & Advising (15%)
- Serve as primary advisor for the MGA Volunteer Club and provide guidance in the planning and implementation of student-led service initiatives.
Recruit and develop student leaders across MGA campuses and provide leadership development and mentorship to Volunteer Club officers and members. Support student leaders in establishing goals, developing service projects, and navigating university processes related to organizational activities. Encourage collaboration among the Volunteer Club, registered student organizations, university departments, and community partners while promoting a cohesive university-wide identity. Maintain appropriate organizational records and encourage members to serve as ambassadors for volunteerism and community engagement at MGA. Volunteer Management, Assessment & Technology (15%)
- Administer university volunteer management systems and maintain accurate records of service opportunities, community partners, student participation, and service hours.
Assist students and community partners with the use of volunteer management platforms. Develop routine reports summarizing participation, service hours, partnerships, and program outcomes. Support assessment of community engagement programs through participant and partner feedback and other evaluation methods. Maintain documentation necessary for institutional reporting, grant reporting, assessment, and program evaluation. Analyze participation and community engagement trends and assist in communicating the impact of MGA's service efforts. Related Duties as Assigned (5%) Required Qualifications Educational Requirements Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field. Other Required Qualifications Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Required Experience Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
