Position Overview/Summary:
The Reentry Peer Specialist provides peer support, recovery coaching, and connections to housing, treatment, and other resources to people who are incarcerated and impacted by incarceration systems. This role also facilitates recovery and re-entry support groups inside and outside incarceration facilities.
Responsibilities:
Support peers in connecting with community resources relevant to their specific needs. Outreach and maintain relationships with people who are incarcerated or recently released. Facilitate recovery meetings inside incarceration facilities Maintain a working knowledge of community resources available and how to access them efficiently Connect peers to community resources to support housing search, detox, mental health support. etc. Provide peer support in developing community connections Participate in outreach and engagement activities. Develop and maintain relationships with peers to promote trust, safety and facilitate access to services. Work actively with other agency programs to maximize the available resources to support peers with whom the program engages. Spend time in the community outreaching peers in an efficient, safe manner. Contribute collaboratively and individually in support of the program and the agency. Demonstrate commitment to cultural sensitivity and the ability to work effectively with diverse populations. Maintain knowledge of and compliance with Commonspace's policies, procedures, and legal obligations. Positively represent Commonspace in the community. Actively participate in, assist, and/or facilitate agency activities and initiatives. Engage as an effective partner with jail, probation, and drug court staff and systems.
Education and Experience Preferred:
Personal life experience relatable to that of the peers enrolled in this program AND/OR a demonstrated understanding of and experience with the practice and principles of peer support and of recovery coaching. Certifications and Licenses Preferred Certified in Intentional Peer Support or willingness to obtain certification Recovery Coach Certification or willingness to obtain certification SMART Recovery Facilitation certification
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work outside for most of the day in all weather conditions Ability to ambulate up and down stairs and carry a backpack of supplies Ability to work with extended periods of sitting, standing, and walking Commonspace is an Equal Opportunity Employer. $20.00 - $29.00 per hour
